MCAA National Update for April 21, 2014
WHEN DOES TOO MUCH INFORMATION GET IN THE WAY?  FIND OUT AT MCAA'S 2014 MID-YEAR CONFERENCE
Technology has become a "must" for today's contractors. SmartPhones, iPads, tablets and mobile data storage make communications between the office and the field faster and business transactions more efficient, but how and when does all the information produced by these devices become "noise"?  During Session 2 of MCAA's 2014 Mid-Year Conference (June 23-25, Indianapolis, IN), Mark Rogers of West Chester Mechanical Contractors (Chester, PA), Steve Dawson of Harrell-Fish, Inc. (Bloomington, IN) and Mike Shinn of Shinn Mechanical, Inc. (Kent, WA) will brief you on the latest technologies for the field and what's coming down the line; making the best use of mobile devices in the field; avoiding the productivity pitfalls of misusing texting, e-mail and Twitter; coping with "No Devices Allowed" rules; and learning from the success stories of others.  During this session, you will find out how technology can help or hinder your business and the productivity you need to stay competitive, both now and into the future.  Find out more about this and other intriguing sessions planned for the Mid-Year Conference by visiting www.mcaa.org/education and then register.

HELP US MAKE A DIFFERENCE AT THE 2014 NATIONAL ISSUES CONFERENCE  We need your help to win passage of pension reform legislation this year. The long-term sustainability of our industry's multiemployer pension plans depends on MCAA members who will help us convince members of Congress to support the needed reforms of our industry's multiemployer pension plans.  For the first time, a broad and effective coalition of labor and management groups has agreed on a way to rebalance risk in the industry's multiemployer pension system, and have taken the "Solutions, Not Bailouts" proposal to our Congressional representatives and senators. This critically important issue is the centerpiece of the MCAA/Quality Construction Alliance National Issues Conference (April 30 - May 2, Washington DC). Register for this important conference so you can learn more about the issue, the legislative solutions and how you can help your industry win this important effort.  Go to www.mcaa.org/education.
NEXT PCA WEBINAR WILL SPOTLIGHT LEXINGTON PLUMBING'S TRANSITION TO COMMERCIAL PLUMBING

In 1997Lexington Plumbing & Heating Co. (Kansas City, MO) was facing heavy non-union competition, diminishing margins and acquiring fewer mid-sized jobs. To survive, Lexington utilized the National Service and Maintenance Agreement, recruited technicians, retooled their business and targeted a new niche - commercial plumbing service. On June 6, 1:00 p.m. Eastern time, during the next PCA webinar, Lexington's Dan Axtell will explain his company's transition This webinar is free to MCAA members as a benefit of membership.  Please register at https://mcaa.webex.com.
