WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW COULD HURT YOUR BUSINESS...REGISTER FOR THE CYBER SECURITY WEBINAR

It's never been more important for you to know how to prevent cyber security breaches that can cause serious harm to your business. On April 25 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time, an MCAA webinar moderated by MCAA President-Elect Steve Dawson of Harrell-Fish, Inc. (Bloomington, IN) will feature Paul Gouge of CNA and Jim Wenninger of WennSoft. DO YOU KNOW THE FIVE COMMON ELEMENTS OF SUCCESSFUL PROJECTS?
During MCAA's 2014 Mid-Year Conference (June 23-25, Indianapolis, IN), Rick Perosa of H.T. Lyons (Allentown, PA) will explain the five keys that are the core of every project, regardless of its size or complexity: identifying, quantifying and accounting for RISK; choosing the right number and skills mix for the project's LABOR force; MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT, including rigging and safety devices; SUBCONTRACTS management; and a thorough understanding of the GENERAL CONDITIONS of the projectHis session will also feature a skills-building exercise, led by John Koontz, focused on how to maximize the effectiveness of the turnover meeting as a project planning tool. The Green Building Webinar - Stone 34 (April 17, 1:00 p.m. Eastern time) - will feature a case study about a 110,000 square-foot new construction project built by McKinstry Company (Seattle, WA) that's in the running for a LEED Platinum designation. Its sustainability features include a dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS), active chilled beams, phase change thermal storage, rainwater treatment and performance guarantees for both water and energy performance. Matt Gregg of McKinstry will share insights about how these technologies will improve the building's energy efficiency and environmental performance. NFPA 70E QUALIFIED-LEVEL ARC FLASH SAFETY TRAINING WEBINAR SAVES LIVES

If your service technicians or other employees who work with or around electrical equipment have not yet participated in the life-saving training provided by the NFPA 70E Qualified-Level Arc Flash Safety Training webinar, make sure they register for one of the next webinars on April 17, 2014 at 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Eastern time. MCAA/MSCA members' employees who are potentially exposed to live conductors of 50 volts of electricity or more during their workday, and especially mechanical service technicians working on units that push 480 volts or less, should attend. Presented by the Hilgeman Group, the session covers all applicable OSHA and NFPA requirements, best practices and NFPA's recent changes to the 70E requirements and provides participants with real-world accident information that will reinforce the importance of this training. If you or a member of your executive team has considered becoming a part of MCAA's Advanced Leadership Institute (ALI), apply now while a few spaces are still available.  ALI's excellent curriculum draws our industry's top executives because it stresses leadership development and strategic planning techniques that are geared for today's and tomorrow's toughest business challenges. MCERF SUPPORTS TEAM USA IN WATER INNOVATION CHALLENGE
The Mechanical Contracting Education & Research Foundation (MCERF) contributed $5,000 to sponsor Team USA in the upcoming WorldSkills Foundation Water Innovation Challenge supported by the World Plumbing Council. PCA Chairman Emeritus William N. Erickson of C.J. Erickson Plumbing Co. (Alsip, IL) will lead the team. The competition will be held June 3-5 in Singapore in conjunction with Singapore International Water Week. The WorldSkills Foundation Water Innovation Challenge will bring together international, multi-discipline teams of plumbers and engineers under the age of 26 to participate in a series of hands-on design challenges and practical tasks. Design toolkits created by the teams will also be made available to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or international development organizations for further use in their own plumbing and sanitation development works around the world.
