MCAA National Update for February 24, 2014
FIND OUT HOW TO STRENGTHEN THE CYBER SECURITY SIDE OF YOUR BUSINESS AT MCAA 2014
If you've been concerned about protecting your business from security breaches, then be sure to attend the session, Protecting You, Your Business Partners and Your Clients...Today's Cyber-Security Challenge during MCAA 2014. This session recognizes the increasingly interconnected nature of business and will offer recommendations for securing your interactions with business partners up and down the supply chain to eliminate weak spots.  Paul Gouge with CNA and Jim Wenninger with WennSoft will walk you through the insurance and information technology realms in plain language to explain how and why parts of your operation that previously were subjected to procedures designed to increase function now fall under the mantle of risk and what this means for your company's expenditures, training, policies and overall business plan. You will leave with a greater understanding of how breaches of security occur and how to protect your company, your business partners and your clients, yet continue to build technologies into your future interactions. This is just one of any number of seminars at MCAA 2014 that will help you keep your business growing strong.  Go to www.mcaa.org/mcaa2014 to access the Final Program.
JOIN CNA'S WEBCAST ON PREVENTING COSTLY INSURANCE FRAUD

CNA has invited MCAA members to participate in an educational webcast to learn about fraudulent property and casualty insurance claims and how to detect and prevent them. Fraudulent claims cost Americans, especially business owners, billions of dollars annually through increased premium rates and taxes. CNA's Special Investigation Unit will lead you through methods to identify and prevent fraud in your own business. Fraud accounts for more than 10 percent of all property/casualty insurance claims (National Insurance Crime Bureau). The webcast, which is free to MCAA members as a benefit of membership, will be presented on Wednesday, March 19 at 11:00 a.m. (Eastern Time). To register, please contact Pete Chaney at pchaney@mcaa.org to request a webcast flier. You will receive the flier electronically, which will allow you to register online.

LEARN ABOUT THE LINK BETWEEN ERGONOMICS AND WORKER HEALTH AND SAFETY AT THE NCPWB ANNUAL TECHNICAL COMMITTEE MEETING

A featured speaker at the NCPWB Annual Technical Committee Meeting (Marco Island Beach Resort, FL, April 27-29) will enlighten you about the importance of ergonomics for keeping workers healthy and safe while on the jobsite...and elsewhere. Carolyn Lundberg, president of ACE Ergonomics (Irvine, CA), will lead an ergonomic safety seminar about the benefits of making a worksite fit the worker rather than requiring workers to adapt to the worksite.  She'll also discuss Cumulative Trauma Disorders (CTDs) and Repetitive Stress Injuries (RSIs) and how to avoid or reduce injuries at (and away from) the workplace. Other topics will include how to avoid or reduce visual stress while performing close-up work, stretching techniques and rest breaks at the workplace, and what should comprise a company-provided ergonomics/safety program. Find out at www.mcaa.org/education/ncpwb and register online.

FINDING MORE EFFICIENT WATER USE STRATEGIES BEGINS WITH INDOOR WATER USE CALCULATIONS

The Plumbing Contractors of America's (PCA) first webinar of 2014 (March 20, 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time) will focus on indoor plumbing water use calculations. The amount of water and energy savings provided by high efficiency water fixtures makes water use calculations an important factor when selecting fixtures. These calculations are also required on every LEED project. And, plumbing contractors are often required to assist in making these calculations. This webinar, led by Courtney France of France Sustainable Solutions, will take you through the calculation process and review common water saving strategies implemented on LEED projects. This webinar is free for MCAA/MSCA members as a benefit of membership.  Please register at https://mcaa.webex.com.

REGISTER NOW FOR THE 2014 NATIONAL ISSUES CONFERENCE

Plan to attend the MCAA/Quality Construction Alliance National Issues Conference (April 30 - May 2, Washington, D.C.) to help our industry win needed pension reform. That issue will be the focus of the conference this year because the need to win passage of pension reform legislation by the end of the year is imperative. With a broad and effective labor/management coalition agreeing on fundamental rebalancing of risk in the industry's multiemployer pension system for the first time, the chance for fundamental reform of the industry's multiemployer pension system makes this an opportunity that MCAA members cannot miss. Go to www.mcaa.org/education to register.
