ALI GRADUATES "LUNCH & LEARN" AT CONVENTION - HAVE YOU APPLIED TO COURSE 14 YET?

One of the benefits of being a graduate of MCAA's Advanced Leadership Institute (ALI) is the graduates-only educational opportunities, such as the exclusive "Lunch & Learn" on Monday, March 10 during MCAA 2014 in Scottsdale, AZ.  Our featured speaker is Tim Marken, president and CEO of the Breakaway Innovation Group (Boston, MA).  He is also Babson Executive Education's newest "superstar" adjunct lecturer.  He will speak to the ALI alumni about Critical Decision Making: Where You Are Affects Where You Are Going!, a look into his groundbreaking ideas on "business life cycles" and problem prediction. And, if you haven't yet experienced ALI and the leadership and strategic planning knowledge that it provides to our industry's top executives, then apply for ALI Course 14 (September 14-19 and November 9-14).  Please contact Dennis Langley (dlangley@mcaa.org) for an application packet.

LOOKING FOR WELL-QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL TALENT? STOP BY THE STUDENT CHAPTER COMPETITION FINALS AT MCAA 2014

Our industry's future professionals will show off what they know about managing projects, mechanical systems and other requirements of a large commercial project at the finals of the MCAA 2013-2014 Student Chapter Competition on March 11, 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.  Members of MCAA student chapters from four excellent schools - the Milwaukee School of Engineering, Southern Polytechnic State University, Sacramento State University and the University of Maryland - College Park - will present their bids for a project involving the retrofit of a warehouse area in a food processing plant into a products testing facility. Five judges will evaluate the presentations and choose the first and second place teams; the results will be announced at the Annual Awards of Excellence program on March 12. And, you can meet the talented young people from the four competition teams at the Annual Student Chapter Exhibit on March 11, from 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. prior to the competition.

LEARN HOW TO REDUCE WORKER EXPOSURE TO WELDER FUMES AT 2014 NCPWB ANNUAL TECHNICAL COMMITTEE MEETING

The NCPWB Annual Technical Committee Meeting (Marco Island Beach Resort, FL, April 27-29) is your best source for news and developments about welding, brazing and welder qualifications. For example, Pam Susi, Exposure Assessment Program Director with the Center for Construction Research and Training, will explain the importance of reducing construction industry workers' exposure to metal fumes.  She will update you on the latest findings of a four-year project that responds to the National Occupational Research Agenda's (NORA) goal of reducing welding fume exposures by increasing the availability and use of welding fume controls and instituting work practices for welding tasks in construction. The full program and online registration are at www.mcaa.org/education/ncpwb.

THERE'S STILL TIME TO REGISTER FOR NFPA 70E QUALIFIED-LEVEL ARC FLASH SAFETY TRAINING WEBINAR

The next NFPA 70E Qualified-Level Arc Flash Safety Training webinar is coming up on February 20, 2014, at 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Eastern time, and registration is still open. MCAA/MSCA members' employees who are potentially exposed to live conductors of 50 volts of electricity or more during their workday, and especially mechanical service technicians working on units that push 480 volts or less, should attend. Presented by the Hilgeman Group, the session covers all applicable OSHA and NFPA requirements, best practices and NFPA's recent changes to the 70E requirements and provides participants with real-world accident information. Contact ahilgeman@frontier.com to register.

HELP US HELP YOU! REGISTER NOW FOR 2014 NATIONAL ISSUES CONFERENCE
Never has it been more important for you to attend the MCAA/Quality Construction Alliance National Issues Conference (April 30 - May 2, Washington D.C.). Pension reform will be the focus of the program this year, as the need to press that measure through Congress by the end of the year is imperative. With a broad and effective labor/management coalition agreeing on fundamental rebalancing of risk in the industry's multiemployer pension system for the first time, the chance for fundamental reform of the industry's multiemployer pension system makes this an opportunity that MCAA members cannot miss. Register for this important conference so you can learn more about the issue, the legislative solutions and how you can help your industry win this important effort.  Go to www.mcaa.org/education.
