TIM WENTZ ELECTED FIRST MECHANICAL CONTRACTOR OFFICER OF ASHRAE

Tim Wentz, educator and recipient of MCAA's Distinguished Service Award, was elected ASHRAE's treasurer for 2014-2015 during that association's 2014 Winter Conference in January. He will automatically become the association's president-elect in 2015-2016 and will assume the ASHRAE presidency in 2016-2017, the first mechanical contractor to serve in that role. A fourth-generation union mechanical contractor, he worked in the industry for 19 years before becoming an associate professor of construction management at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, a post he has held for 20 years. He is the faculty advisor for the MCAA student chapter at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, which is sponsored by the MCA of Omaha (MCAO), and serves on the faculty of MCAA's Institute for Project Management (IPM) and National Education Initiative (NEI). In addition, he has presented at numerous mid-year conferences, workshops and seminars on behalf of MCAA. A three-time winner of MCAA's Educator of the Year Award (2000, 2002 and 2004), he also served on the MCERF Board of Trustees. In 2009, he was awarded MCAA's highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award. "Receiving the Distinguished Service Award from MCAA was one of the most thrilling and humbling experiences of my life," stated Wentz. "It was humbling because I have had the great fortune to be surrounded by a lot of very talented people working very hard to make their organization successful. So it is also with the treasurer's nomination by ASHRAE. I think the nomination is a testimony of the strength and success of the MCAO and the MCAA." Congratulations Tim!

If your company's 2013 safety achievements reached new levels, then make sure you participate in MCAA's Annual Safety Awards Program. Co-sponsored by MCAA and CNA, the program requires that MCAA members submit their 2013 statistical information along with other safety program information contained in a five-part application. All participants will receive a confidential statistical benchmarking report. Five first-place safety awards will be presented at the Annual Awards of Excellence Breakfast at MCAA 2014 in Scottsdale, AZ. All participants who receive a zero lost workday cases incidence rate, or one that is 25 percent or more below the BLS industry average, will receive a Certificate of Commendation. Applications are now available online at www.mcaa.org/safetyawards, and completed applications must be received by MCAA no later than January 30, 2014.
