PENSION REFORM TAKES CENTER STAGE AT MCAA'S 2013 NATIONAL ISSUES CONFERENCE
Reform of multiemployer pension benefits laws topped the list of critical industry issues needing legislative action at MCAA's National Issues Conference last week in Washington, D.C. During a briefing at Bloomberg Government, MCAA members and local execs heard from pension experts about reform options for protecting the viability of the multiemployer pension system from market volatility, unpredictable funding disruptions and the prospect of plan underfunding and possible insolvency. The Bloomberg briefing also included a discussion about the need for changes in our nation's immigration laws to protect the competitive market position of signatory firms and their investment in workforce training and development. Energy policy also received attention during the session. A Capitol Hill Small Business Forum hosted a briefing on Federal Construction Procurement Reform. Attendees brought their concerns about these and other issues to the attention of their U.S. House and Senate representatives and staff during personal visits.
