MCAA National Update for October 29, 2012

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR 2013 ANNUAL MCAA SAFETY DIRECTORS' CONFERENCE

Make sure the safety professionals in your company plan to attend MCAA's Safety Director's Conference (January 15-17, 2013, Manhattan Beach, CA.), the one conference that focuses on the most critical safety and health issues concerning our industry. Attendees will learn about the latest regulatory developments at OSHA and about technology and the practices and procedures that keep project crews safe and hazard-free while on the jobsite. The program opens with Occupational Safety and Health Psychology expert Scott Gellar of Safety Performance Solutions who will speak about the Controversial Role of Discipline in Safety. Mike Farrington of CNA will present Mechanical Industry Loss Trends and David Sarvadi of Keller and Heckman will speak on OSHA initiatives. Other topics will include: ISNetworld, Safety and Productivity; Work Glove Technology; First Aid vs. Professional Medical Treatment; and OSHA's New Hazard Communications Standard. Please register at www.mcaa.org/education. For more information, please contact Pete Chaney (pchaney@mcaa.org).

LEARN HOW TO MAKE EFFECTIVE USE OF INDUSTRY FUNDS AT 2012 MCAA INDUSTRY IMPROVEMENT FUNDS CONFERENCE

The 2012 MCAA Industry Improvement Funds Conference (December 5-7, 2012, Longboat Key Club, Longboat Key, FL) offers an excellent program about how local affiliated associations may use these funds to enhance daily activities and special initiatives. MCAA President Mac Lynch will speak about recent MCAA program developments and initiatives. Accountant Denise Martinez of Shield Blice and Associates (Uniontown, OH) will lead a session on best accounting practices. Attorney Jim Estabrook will share his legal expertise and insights on industry fund administration. Steve Lamb, Executive Vice President of the MCA of Chicago, will address technology changes that have affected the traditional union business model in the recent past and how they will affect the construction industry over the next few years. MCAA Government Affairs Committee Chairman Bill Albanese and MCAA General Counsel John McNerney will discuss the impact of the 2012 general election results on the association's legislative priorities. And, Pete McKenzie will share information about the latest National Education Initiative (NEI)-the BIM for Mechanical Contractors Series-five new BIM courses and their content. Registration, which is complimentary for affiliated association executives, is now open at www.mcaa.org/education. For more information, contact Sean McGuire (smcguire@mcaa.org).

YOU CAN STILL REGISTER FOR THE QUALIFIED-LEVEL ARC FLASH SAFETY TRAINING WEBINAR
Time is running out, but you can still register for the next NFPA 70E Qualified-Level Arc Flash Safety Training webinar; two sessions are scheduled for October 30 at 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Eastern time. This webinar is designed for MCAA/MSCA members' employees who are potentially exposed to live conductors of 50 volts of electricity or more during their workday and is ideal for mechanical service technicians working on units that push 480 volts or less. Presented by the Hilgeman Group, the session covers all OSHA and NFPA requirements, best practices and NFPA's recent changes to the 70E requirements and provides participants with real-world accident information that will reinforce the importance of this training. This training is available at a special rate for MCAA/MSCA members. Register today at ahilgeman@frontier.com.
MSCA'S NEXT WEBINAR WILL FOCUS ON BUILDING NEW BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES BY CROSS-SELLING SERVICES
Turning opportunities into profits by cross-selling services is the topic of MSCA's next webinar on Building the Ultimate Sales Team. This webinar-Cross Selling Your Services (October 30, 1:00 p.m. Eastern time)-will show you how to integrate opportunities in plumbing, commissioning, energy services and other growing specialties. Jaimi Lomas of A.O. Reed & Company (San Diego, CA) will lead the program, which will teach you how to: break down the barriers between divisions; develop incentives for cross-selling; train all staff on every service the company offers; and establish a cross-referral lead generation program. This webinar is free as a benefit of MSCA/MCAA membership; register at https://msca.webex.com/
NEXT GREEN WEBINAR TO FOCUS ON WATER EFFICIENCY ON LEED 2012 PROJECTS
As part of the LEED 2012 Update, the Water Efficiency component has been substantially revised. MCAA's next Green Webinar, co-sponsored by the Plumbing Contractors of America (PCA), will cover new credits, major changes and how these updates will affect plumbing and mechanical contractors. Matt Gregg, PE, LEED AP of the McKinstry Company (Seattle, WA) will lead the session, which takes place November 15, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time. Registration is free as a benefit of MCAA membership; please sign up at https://mcaa.webex.com/
