Corrales International School February 2015
Kids in Class CIS
CIS Family,

February is here and we'd really like you to add our Very Important IB Night for Parents to your calendar for Thursday February 19th! We are in the authorization process for our Middle Years Programme to be approved by the International Baccalaureate Organization and we will have a site visit team coming late in February.  It would be fantastic to show our visitors how much our parents know about IB!  Also a reminder that our MYP Coordinator, Mr. Ripp, is encouraging all MYP parents to sign up for a day to shadow your student and see what the MYP is all about!  We hope to see you around the halls and classrooms at CIS.

Principled

Principled students act with integrity and honesty, and have a strong sense of fairness, justice and respect for the dignity of the individual, groups and communities.

They take responsibility for their own actions and the consequences that accompany them.

Activities for parents

* Involve your child in deciding on the rules for a game or activity and then ensure that they stick to the ones that have been decided upon.

* Encourage your child to play games that involve teams. Discuss with your child the qualities of a team player. What sort of person would they want on their team?

* When your child wins a game insist that he or she is a well-mannered winner. They might thank their opponent or shake hands with them if it's appropriate.

* When playing a game, don't change the rules or let your child win. Being a gracious loser is just as important as being a good winner.

CIS PTA sponsored CLUBS

Payment for all fee-based clubs must be made directly to the instructors, with checks made out to the individuals or the organizations they represent.  CIS staff does not handle checks or cash for these groups.  Thank you for your understanding.

PERMACULTURE CLUB
The Permaculture Club has some upcoming events!  Please note these dates!
Wednesday 1/28 "College Chat" for all MYP students that attend, will be held at 1:30pm in Permaculture Club
Saturday 2/7 10:00am-1:00pm: Permaculture Recycling Kick-off! All CIS families and friends are invited!
Saturday 2/21 10:00am-1:00pm Resume & Interview Skills Workshop for all high school students.

GLEE CLUB
Miss Marisa Tapia and Miss Monty will be the instructors for Glee club.  We want to grow this club, so please encourage others to join us whenever you think it might be appropriate!  It will involve pop music, Broadway music and Spanish music!  Miss Marisa is a violinist, has vocal training, and has performed in Spanish operas!!  Ultimately, the kids will also drive the direction of this club with their musical interests and ambitions!  One thought is that it may become a show choir some day!  For now, it's just about having fun singing and learning to sing in a group!

Glee Club will meet on Mondays after school from 3:45 pm until 4:30 pm, starting on February 9th.  The club is scheduled at this time so that it can be open to all grades, K-12.  At this time, we think it will meet in the Multi-Purpose Room.  The fee will be $50.00 per child, for each 6 week session.  Miss Marisa will be coordinating everything from here on out.  You can email her directly with any questions at marisatapia@icloud.com.  Checks should be made payable to Marisa Tapia as well, and are due on 2/9/15 at the first meeting.

LEGO PLAY SESSIONS
The next Lego Session will be held on Friday, February 27th  from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Please email tprewitt@gmail.com to get your child signed up for this play session.  There is a cap of 20 students.

THANK YOU TO THE CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE FOR PROVIDING A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY TO HOST THE CHINESE ACROBATS AT CIS LAST WEEK!
