Thinkers exercise initiative in applying thinking skills critically and creatively to recognize and approach complex problems, and make reasoned, ethical decisions.

Activities for parents

* Encourage your child to try to think of solutions to problems      independently.

* Pose different real-life problems and questions to your child.

* Ask your child questions when they are working on a problem:

1. "Do you have any ideas about how we can begin?"
2. "How can we do this differently?"
3. "I had never thought of that. Tell me more about it."
4. "What other ways can we show that?"
5. "What would you do in this situation?"
====================================================

Hello CIS Family,

Can you believe we have only one more week of school before Winter Break!

This is going to be a busy week--

On Wednesday students will wear standard uniform dress, NOT PE uniforms as we will have an amended class schedule that day. Wednesday will still be a short day.

During the morning on Wednesday, we will have our Legislative Breakfast at CIS and visitors will be on campus to learn about our amazing school!

During the upcoming Legislative Session, one of the proposals that will be presented may include a proposed reduction or complete removal of the small school size adjustment which provides significant funding to small schools, including CIS.  Parents are encouraged to engage their legislators by calling them or writing a letter or email to voice your opinion on this matter.  To look up your legislator, visit http://www.nmlegis.gov/lcs/legislator_search.aspx.

On Thursday, our MYP students will have their specials, including Taekwondo and that is the day they should wear PE uniform clothing. Thursday is a standard long day. Thursday evening we will have our Winter Program held at La Cueva High School--make sure to get your tickets asap!

Friday will be an early release day!! PYP students are dismissed at 1230 and MYP students at 1245. This day will be Pajama Day for our PYP students and 80's Day for our MYP students! Permaculture Club will be available on Friday starting at 1230.

Have fun and stay warm this week!

December Lunch Menu

Please visit here to order your child's lunch. Payment can be made at CIS.  Please make checks out to NaMa Catering.

CIS Parents,

Our vendor, NaMa Catering, has been consistently providing good nutritious hot lunch options for our families since last year.  NaMa is a small local mom-run business with a mission to provide healthy meal options for kids.  Currently, many CIS families have outstanding bills. Invoices were sent home with your children just before the Thanksgiving break. Please bring in your payment as soon as possible and deposit it in the small metal NaMa catering box in the CIS reception area.

If you are interested in finding out if you qualify for free or reduced lunch options please contact our registrar, Dawn Jackson, at [email protected] to request the verification paperwork.

Thank you.

Giving Back at CIS
Get in on the fun and help others!

4th and 5th grade students are doing a service project activity for their unit "how the world works" and the line of inquiry "how humans are dealing with difficult circumstances". They will be gathering new toys or lightly used clothing for children in foster care. This kindness drive will end on Monday the 15th. Please bring items before then. Thanks!!

The CIS Pay it Forward Mentorship groups, for the month of December, will be doing a community service project entitled, 'Homeless Drive'.  Beginning tomorrow, please send in gallon size zip lock bags, any travel size hygiene products, small snacks and mini water bottles so that our students can put together bags for the homeless community in Albuquerque.  These bags will be delivered,  by Ms. Alma and her husband, during the Christmas break.  Please drop off these items with Ms. Alma or Ms. Kim between Mon. and Thurs of this week.  Students in each group will be putting them together.

Thank you for your continued support in making a difference in our community.
