December Learner Profile

Thinkers exercise initiative in applying thinking skills critically and creatively to recognize and approach complex problems, and make reasoned, ethical decisions.

Activities for parents

* Encourage your child to try to think of solutions to problems      independently.

* Pose different real-life problems and questions to your child.

* Ask your child questions when they are working on a problem:

1. "Do you have any ideas about how we can begin?"
2. "How can we do this differently?"
3. "I had never thought of that. Tell me more about it."
4. "What other ways can we show that?"
5. "What would you do in this situation?"

IB Parent Academy

This Tuesday is a very important meeting for parents of students in our IB Programmes.  You will have an opportunity to meet to hear a presentation from your child's teacher on the IB Philosophy with a focus on the Learner Profiles.

We have great news on our candidacy for our Middle Years Programme--our application has been accepted and we will have a site visit by IB planned in 2015!  This is very exciting news and we would like to share more with you about the process of teaching for deeper meaning and what it means to be an IB student!

We look forward to seeing our whole community come out for this.

Lockdown Drill

The planned date for the lockdown drill has been moved to Thursday, December 4th.  Contact your child's teacher to find out when the class will go over the lockdown drill procedures.  Please download our lockdown training powerpoint at http://corralesis.org/for-parents/school-safety-lockdown-drill/.

Winter Ball
CIS MYP Winter Ball

Corrales International School PTA is proud to be hosting the first formal dance at our new location - A Winter Ball for our High School Students!

We are asking for the help of our fabulous parents to help make this a memorable event. Please take a moment to look through the list for items that we are in need of (click here). We mainly need help with food, chaperones, and decorations. If you are able to assist in some way The Winter Ball will be themed around everything cold and icy, so think blue, white, and silver!

Every year CIS PTA holds a kids Shop N Stroll event. This is a fantastic opportunity for your children to purchase low-cost but thoughtful gifts for their family and friends. This event is always a huge hit with the kids who are so excited to be able to participate in the season of giving!

Items are all donated by CIS families so please start gathering your unwanted knick knacks, costume jewelery, etc to donate!  Contact Liza Volkmann for more information.

CIS Enrollment Lottery

We are beginning to take applications for student enrollment for the 2015-2016 school year.

Our lottery will take place for new students on February 18th at 5pm. This school year, applications will be requested through an online form available on the CIS website, corralesis.org

Currently enrolled students DO NOT need to fill out an application or go through the lottery process. In order to conduct our lottery we need to know the number of students planning to return at each grade level. Families will be asked to fill out the intention to return form after the new year begins.

Sincerely,

Dr. Elsy Fierro Diaz, Head of School
Corrales International School
