Kids in Class CIS

Dear CIS Families,

TOMORROW is Halloween and students will NOT be allowed to wear costumes to school, as you know. As a special treat, however, students will be allowed to be out of uniform and in street clothes that meet dress standards delineated in our handbook.

Those students in Kinder and 1st grades that will be going on the field trip WILL NEED TO BE IN STANDARD UNIFORM DRESS (Friday dress is acceptable). These students will also need to bring a sack lunch to the field trip.

October Learner Profile
Caring

They develop empathy, compassion and respect towards the needs and feelings of others. They have a personal commitment to service, and act to make a positive difference to the lives of others and to the environment.

Activities for parents

* Role model the caring behavior you would like to see in your child all the time. Using kind words, helping people without being asked, being an active listener, all show your child that you care about people.

* Smile

* After reading a book, spend some time considering how the people in the book acted. Was someone caring? All of the time or just some of the time? Were all of the characters in the book caring or just some of them?

* Practice random acts of kindness. Simple things like holding the door for someone or helping carry bags shows that you are aware of
others and want to help them.

Military Status

NM Public Education Department is asking all schools to report whether or not each student that we have enrolled is part of a military family.

Please answer the questions in this form so that we may accurately report Military Status.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this form.

From the Attendance Committee

After our first time of issuing lunch detention, for PYP ever and for MYP this school year, a couple of changes are going to be made.

First off, we would like to explain why we are doing this.  We have several students who are tardy several times a week.  If a student is tardy 10 minutes three times a week,  over the course of a month they miss 2 hours of class.  This also disrupts the students who are already receiving their instructional time.

We met on Thursday October 30, 2014.  In that meeting, it was decided that we will use 2 codes for tardies.  One will be an Excused Tardy the other Unexcused Tardy.  Excused Tardy will be used in cases for example in which a student may have a doctor's appointment.  When the parent brings the student to school and signs them in for the school day, the parent will supply CIS with a doctor's note.  Also, an excused tardy may be when a major accident occurs.  At that time, the tardy will be marked excused.   Any other reason for the tardy will be unexcused.

When a student has accumulated 3 unexcused tardies, they will be required to attend Study Hall.  Study Hall will be on the last Wednesday of each month (that we are in session) at 7:30 am.  Parent will be required to sign their child in at 7:30 am.  Study Hall will be held until 8 am.  The students will be provided work from their teacher during this time.

If you would like to correspond with the Attendance Committee, please email us at info@corralesis.org  .  This is the ONLY way to communicate with the Attendance Committee.

Thank you for your cooperation with this matter,
