Kids in Class CIS

Dear CIS Families,

This week is the week of Balloon Fiesta and traffic will be challenging to navigate.  Please see the Traffic Permit (one per family) which was sent home with your child on Friday.  This will allow passage to the school should any roads be closed due to the Balloon Fiesta. According to DOT there are no planned road closures during school. This is not a pass into the Balloon Fiesta Park or any of their parking.

Instruction will not begin this week until 9:00 am to allow for traffic delays.  Students will be received as early as 7:30am if needed.

Wednesday is our Balloon Fun Family Day! Please come at 6:30 am, have some refreshments and watch the mass ascension (7:00am) from our facility.  Fun balloon-related classroom activities will begin at 9:00 am and families are encouraged to stay and get in on the fun.  Please feel free to stay for lunch-our caterer, Nama Catering has added a $5 parent lunch option on this day!  Please order online and pay here at CIS.  Come and be a part of this new tradition for CIS!

All students will be dismissed on Wednesday at 12:30pm.

Remember that we have no school on Friday, October 10th and will return to school on Monday, October 13th.

We look forward to a fun-filled week as CIS!

October Learner Profile
Caring

They develop empathy, compassion and respect towards the needs and feelings of others. They have a personal commitment to service, and act to make a positive difference to the lives of others and to the environment.

Activities for parents

* Role model the caring behavior you would like to see in your child all the time. Using kind words, helping people without being asked, being an active listener, all show your child that you care about people.

* Smile

* After reading a book, spend some time considering how the people in the book acted. Was someone caring? All of the time or just some of the time? Were all of the characters in the book caring or just some of them?

* Practice random acts of kindness. Simple things like holding the door for someone or helping carry bags shows that you are aware of
others and want to help them.

ManageBac

For the 2014 2015 school year the CIS MYP is using the information system ManageBac to communicate between teachers, students and parents.

On Friday
10/3/2014, parents should have received an e-mail with log-in instructions to ManageBac. If you did not receive a welcome e-mail or if you have any other issues with ManageBac, please contact the CIS MYP Coordinator, Josh Ripp, at

PSAT

Dear Families of our 9th, 10th and 11th grade students:

The Preliminary SAT (PSAT) exam will be administered this fall on Wednesday October 15, 2014 at 1:30 pm. All 9th, 10th, 11th and 12thgrade students are eligible to take this exam that will be administered here at CIS. There is a $14 fee for all students taking the test and 11th graders can apply for a waiver.  There are a limited number of tests available at CIS so please indicate your interest early by contacting me via email: newcomer-millerj@corralesis.org Checks must be made out to CIS and given to me prior to Oct 13, 2014

Below is a bit more information related to the PSAT along with some helpful links. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me. Most importantly, for 11th graders, the PSAT serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test for students entering college in the fall of 2016.
