See what is going on at CIS!
This Week

CIS Family,

Are you looking for a way to become more knowledgeable about the inner workings at CIS?  The School Advisory Committee meets once per month and is looking for a kindergarten parent representative!

The SAC is an advisory body comprised of parent representatives for each CIS grade, PYP and MYP teacher representatives and the Head of School. The members work together to better our school through active discussion and problem-solving to recommend policy solutions to issues relevant to the students, parents and staff at CIS.

Please contact SAC Chairwoman, Robin Yoder if you are interested! (robinyoder@aol.com)

The Learner Profile for the Month of September is:

Knowledgeable

Knowledgeable students develop and use conceptual understandings, exploring knowledge across a range of disciplines.

Students engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance.

Activities for parents

  • Encourage your child to read books at home that correspond to the topics being covered in school.
  • Ask your child about what they are learning in school and engage them in conversations about it:

"Why do you think that is an important thing to know about?"

"Can you think of anything happening in the world today that might be similar to that aspect of History?"

  • Encourage your child to become familiar with current events and to read the newspaper and watch the news when appropriate.

Our new-to-the-US Chinese Instructor, Amy Liu, is getting an apartment but needs many things to make her apartment a home!

If you can help out with donations of a sofa or a dresser that would be amazing! Please email Tara at tprewitt@gmail.com if you can help!

Thank you to the Casalduc family, the Bachand family, the Cremeens/Prewitt family, the Taylor family and the Fiedler family for donations already received!

Balloon Fiesta and Traffic News

Balloon Fiesta is coming!

This means hot air balloon excitement and traffic jams for us.  For the week of Oct 6 through 9 school will begin at 9 am to allow families extra time to get to school.  For our MYP students this change in schedule will mean no mentoring class to offset the late start.  Staff will be available at 7:30 am to accommodate those that can make it and need to drop students off at that time.

On Wednesday, Oct 8 we will have a Family Day with the facility open early to allow families to come see balloons from our building and have refreshments. This day will be a Balloon Themed day, with families invited to stay and see what they can learn in the classrooms about the science of ballooning, the history of ballooning, etc.

Please note that due to continued construction
  • Paseo del Norte Blvd. (NM State Road 423) - One lane of eastbound Paseo del Norte will merge into southbound I-25 without any signals. Two lanes in each direction (east and west) will be open.
We will include updates with information about how traffic flow around CIS will be effected by construction as it becomes available.

To sign up to receive updates via email or text, please visit
