CIS Families Rock!
Attendance
Hello Parents:

Here we are at the beginning of another school year!

As we work to improve curriculum and instruction, one fact is perfectly clear: none of our efforts will
work if children do not attend school regularly. Across our state, too many students are missing 10 percent of the school year, a level of chronic absenteeism that erodes student achievement as early as kindergarten and exacerbates achievements gaps.

Chronic absences in kindergarten and first grade can leave students unable to read by the end of third
grade. In sixth grade, poor attendance becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school. By ninth grade, it is a better predictor of high school graduation than eighth grade test scores.

The research also shows that when we put students back on track for attendance, we can affect their academic performance as well.

Please refer to our Family Handbook on our website if you have any questions to our Attendance Policy.

Hope this school year is the vest ever!

Sincerely,

Dr. Elsy Diaz
Head of School

Dear CIS Family,

We have had a great start to our new school year!  The students and teachers are getting to know each other and settling into new routines. We appreciate you facilitating this by bringing your children to school at or after 7:30 am and picking your children up during the designated pick up time.

In order to reduce our impact on neighboring businesses, we are implementing a new pick up procedure (please read more below).  Please ask your child to give you the pick up card given to him/her in class today and keep that in your car for pick up.  This card tells you the designated pick up time for your family and helps staff identify who you are at the school to pick up.  Maintaining a smooth pick up lane that keeps moving will shorten the wait for everyone!

We have already had our brand new interior gate (purchased by the CIS Foundation) damaged twice at pick up.  Please be careful and mindful while in our pick up/drop off line.  It is very disappointing that the new gates have been damaged and do not properly close now, but the gates are certainly not the most precious things we need to protect!  Please keep in a single line when pulling through and only come at the appropriate time.

The PTA is hosting a Meet and Greet event Friday, August 29th at 5pm.  Our Ribbon Cutting ceremony to celebrate our new school will be on September 10th at 10 am.  At our Hola Open House on September 18th,  you will have an opportunity to discuss curriculum and understand our grading policies.   You are going to be amazed at all the wonderful work our teachers and staff have done.

Respectfully,
