Dear CIS Families
We have completed all our NM Standards Based Assessment testing.  Thank you to everyone, teachers, students, and you for supporting us through state mandated testing season.   And many thanks to those of you that brought snacks in to fuel our students' brains before testing.

These types of tests take a toll on an entire school community and I am grateful to everyone that made the NMSBA testing completion successful.

A special thank you goes out to Ms. Sheley Wimmer that did an a-w-e-s-o-m-e job in coordinating testing this school year.  I know she spent many sleepless nights planning to ensure that everything went smoothly during the day.

We will celebrate the completion of the NMSBA testing on Friday at 2:30 p.m. with a fruit and ice cream social.  Donations to make this a delicious event will be graciously accepted, please email Ms. Patti brainardp@corralesis.org

THIS WEEK-FAMILY SCIENCE NIGHT
We have Family Science Night on Tuesday, April 1. This is a great event for the whole family.  Sandia Labs brings out great activities for you to play with your kids.
Also students in grades 4th to 12th have come up with some Science and community projects they would like to share with you.  So make plans to come out on Tuesday to check out the fun activities and support our students in their presentations.  Everything starts at 5:30 p.m.!
I hope you have a wonderful week and please check our website corralesis.org to view other upcoming events.

Kind Regards,

IB LEARNER PROFILE
----Risk-Taker----

The aim of all IB programs is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.

IB programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. - from the IBO mission statement.

Risk-takers approach their future and new opportunities with energy and faith in their ability to achieve. They learn how to analyze situations and become more confident and assertive when moving into uncharted territory. Doing so gives IB learners and the people around them courage to stand up for what's right.

Risk-Taker

Students who are RISK-TAKERS have courage to try new things. They try to solve problems in a lot of ways. They have the bravery to tell people what they think is right.

How can parents help to develop students who are Risk-Takers at home?

If your child is feeling uneasy about trying something, encourage them to attempt it and then reflect on both whether they liked the activity and how it felt to try something new.

You child might want to set some short-term goals. Consider activities that make him/her nervous. What are realistic goals for the week? Your child might set a goal to:

  • Offer an opinion in class
  • Spend one recess with someone they might not usually play with
  • Order something different from the lunch menu
  • Try an activity they haven't tried before

Be careful to explain to your child the difference between being a risk-taker by trying new things and doing dangerous things.

It's that time of year again...Jog-A-Thon! As many of you know Jog-A-Thon is our school's biggest PTA fundraiser of the year, and this year all proceeds will go towards playground equipment for our new building!

Last year our amazing students brought in close to $8500 and this year (since we are so awesome), we're hoping to exceed that amount. We need all the help we can get from our fabulous CIS families though!

We need help in securing donations and general planning of the event. This year's event is scheduled for April 25th the we will have an Earth Day theme. If you are interesting in assisting please contact me at 505-903-2787 or abbiej76@comcast.net.
