CORRALES INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
IB Learner Profile:
Reflective

Students who are REFLECTIVE know their strengths and weaknesses. They thoughtfully consider the world and their own ideas and experience. They work to understand their strengths and weaknesses in order to support their learning and personal development.

How can parents help to develop students who are Reflective at home?

  • Spend time looking at work samples and journals. Ask them to talk about what they have learned and how they could apply that knowledge to the real world. Do they see areas that could be improved? Do they have areas that they feel confident in?
  • Spend some time reviewing your child's report card with them. They should have the opportunity to look at this document and consider it as well. Discuss it with them and truly consider their thoughts on their strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Consider the goals that your child could set for the next term. Make a list not only of the goals, but of specific actions that can be taken to achieve these goals. You might want to list action that your child will take independently as well as action parents will take to support them. For example, if one of the goals your child sets for herself is to improve her writing, her action might be to keep a journal and write in it for at least 10 minutes each night. As a parent, you might decide that the two of you will participate in shared writing, for 30 minutes each week and produce a book of narratives together.

Dear CIS Family:

Tonight is the PTA Potluck at 530 here at CIS.  I hope you will be able to make it!

A few reminders for this week.

Parking/Drop-off/Pick-up

Please drop-off and pick-up your student through the back of the school (Midway Park Blvd.).  The front parking lot can be dangerous with too many cars backing up and pulling in.  Please use the back parking area.   Additionally, all staff is getting ready to start the day between the times of 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m  and we are not able to answer the front door.

Please drive your students to the back gate on Midway Park Blvd.

Uniforms and Jackets

All students are expected to wear their uniform shirts all week.   Please make sure your student is wearing a uniform shirt in the morning.   We do have a uniform closet if you need an additional shirt, please come by and see Ms. Patti Brainard, our receptionist.

As the weather gets warmer, we find more and more forgotten jackets.  Please ask your student, " Where is your jacket? At the end of each month all forgotten jackets go to GoodWill.  We remind students every week to check the Lost and Found but we need your help.

I hope you have a great week.

Respectfully,

Dr. Elsy Diaz

Head of School

CIS Spring Picture Day is Monday March 3, 2014
Online Ordering is now open!

http://www.elltography.com/p/fundraisers.html

Things to Know About Spring 2014 Portraits:

1)      Class Photos, Individual Spring Photos, then Sibling Photos (only of siblings at CIS) will be taken on Spring 2014 Picture Day.  Only Students ordering prints and those who missed Fall 2013 yearbook Picture Day will be photographed individually or with siblings as ordered. Send your child to school in their uniform for class photos, then they may change into street clothes for their individual and sibling photos.  Pre-Order Here.

2)      Class Photos will be taken first on Spring 2014 Picture Day. You may order just a Class Photo if you choose.  If you order just a class photo, your child will not be individually photographed.

3)      There are no retakes or refunds for Spring Portraits. You must choose one of the proofs in the gallery.  You will need to choose your proof and complete checkout in a timely manner, or the gallery will expire over the summer before the next school year.

4)      You will go through 2 check-outs to complete your order.

a.      (1) PRE-ORDER You will pre-order here on the Ell Photography Fundraiser tab to make sure your child is photographed.  You will receive a gift certificate for what you pre-ordered to redeem at the Ell Photography Gallery website.  Please provide the email at which you wish to receive the link to the proofs in the first checkout process, or you may miss the password and gallery link.

b.      (2) PROOFS will be available online at the Ell Photography Gallery website in a password-protected gallery, just like Fall 2013 portraits, few days after Picture Day.  You will receive the password, your Gift Certificate Codes, and the link to the gallery with checkout instructions in an email.  You will need to choose your image, then add the same thing you pre-ordered to cart associated with the chosen photo proof.  Then enter your gift certificate code in check-out.

5)      Spring portraits will be taken on a gold sparkly backdrop very similar to the silver backdrop from Spring 2013 pictures last year. Formal wear looks great!

6)      20% of all portrait revenue goes to the PTA for school projects!

Sibling Photo Packages

Due to popular demand, we are taking Sibling Portraits again this year. After class and individual photos are taken, we will offer sibling groupings.  Please provide all student's names and grades.  We will start with the groupings with the youngest sibling first.  Although, we hope to finish all sibling orders, if for some reason there is not enough time to photograph all sibling groupings, any grouping that was not completed will be refunded.  These sibling groupings are for CIS students only.  Please do not bring in younger siblings or siblings from other schools as we can't give you an exact time of when to come and it ends up delaying the process and causing unneeded distraction to the students.
