Dear CIS Families,

OUR NEW SCHOOL BUILDING (CHECK IT OUT)

We have met with the architect and have begun the design process for our new building.  The link above will take you to an exterior view of the building.  As soon as the architect completes the final drawings we will provide those to you.

While the thought of needing to raise $30,000 by January may sound daunting, it was noted by some families at our meeting that if you break it down it represents approximately $300 of fundraising per CIS family. This generous act would help us gain an amazing educational space for our students. Some great suggestions from the meeting were that we ask friends and family to write a check or BUY A BRICK for CIS in lieu of a birthday present, donate to the Corrales International School Foundation through the United Way as soon as possible, or ask businesses that you have a connection with to donate to our amazing school. Please visit the CIS FOUNDATION WEBSITE (CLICK HERE) or the BUY A BRICK website and consider contributing while having your child's name or the family name engraved on a brick that would be forever displayed in the entry way of our new building. These donations are tax deductible and the CIS fed tax id number is 03-2177700-00-4.  There is also a box in our school where you can send your donations.

Please become part of our history by buying a brick, getting donations, and participating in our fundraising events.  We can do this!

Respectfully,

Dr. Elsy Diaz

The IB Learner Profile for November is

Caring individuals develop empathy, compassion and respect towards the needs and feelings of others. They have a personal commitment to service, and act to make a positive difference to the lives of others and to the environment.

Activities for parents

  • Role model the caring behavior you would like to see in your child all the time. Using kind words, helping people without being asked, being an active listener, all show your child that you care about people.
  • Smile
  • After reading a book, spend some time considering how the people in the book acted. Was someone caring? All of the time or just some of the time? Were all of the characters in the book caring or just some of them?
  • Practice random acts of kindness. Simple things like holding the door for someone or helping carry bags shows that you are aware of others and want to help them.

Read-a-Thon
!

The Read-a-Thon fundraiser is another way you can help raise funds for our new BUILDING.  It's easy to get started and it will be a fun learning experience for your child to contribute to our journey.

Your child's teacher will set aside 30 minutes for Read-a-Thon reading in their classroom (MYP 7-12th will read in Ms. Roberts' classroom) until November 22nd.

Last week, you should have received a flyer with information on how you register your child to participate in the Read-a-Thon.  Not only do students get an opportunity to help raise funds for our building but they also get to earn RAT bucks to purchase prizes through the Read-a-Thon website.

2 Easy Steps to Participate
1.  Register your child with the information you received in the flyer.  If you did not receive the flyer, please send me an email diaz@corralesis.org. I will be glad to send you the information.
2. Advertise your child's participation in the Read-a-Thon  by entering your friends and relatives email addresses (addresses will be kept confidential) and by posting it on Facebook.
- your friends and relatives will get an invitation to pledge in support of our school.  Please remember that all contributions are tax deductible.

I encourage all you to register your child to participate in this
great opportunity to contribute to our building fund.   Our new building will become a reality and we will ALL (including your child) be able to look at what we built TOGETHER for our children and take pride in our work.

Thank you for your continued support.
