Nutritional Lunches

We  encourage families to pack the healthiest lunches and snacks for their children.   We strongly discourage energy drinks or soft drinks at the school and hope that families will choose drinks that are not high in sugar or caffeine.   Our School Advisory Committee will be considering some guidelines for school lunches and hope that families will provide some input for our discussions.

  IMPORTANT NOTICE
This school year we will not be able to have any type of nuts or peanuts at our school.   We have some children attending our school that are extremely allergic.  Even the powder and oils of nuts or peanuts could be detrimental to their health.  Please be cautious in packing your child's lunch and do not send any snacks or food that contains peanuts or tree nuts.

NAMA CATERING

Dear Corrales International Families,

It has been our pleasure to feed the wonderful students at Corrales International School!

A few updates....

We are working to make the ordering process easier and we appreciate your patience while we work this out. Until otherwise notified please

  1. Print out the menu.
  2. Write the student's name and grade.
  3. Circle the lunches your child wants to eat.
  4. Submit the menu along with the payment into the Nama Catering Box.

Menus must be filled out and turned in to the box by 11:00 am the day before to receive lunch.

We regret to announce that we will not serve breakfast in September. We simply didn't have enough orders. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thank you for the opportunity to feed your children colorful, healthy, and delicious lunches! As always feel free to email me with any questions.

Dear CIS Families,

I hope you all enjoyed the day commemorating Labor Day.   Labor Day was started 100 years ago to celebrate the "social and economic contributions of American workers." http://www.dol.gov/laborday/history.htm

This week we continue to fine tune some of our school routines and hope that you will help us with the following:

1.  Our Brain Gym exercises are going well but we need your help.  Please make sure your PYP (K-5) student arrives on time at 8:15 a.m.   Students arriving after 8:15 a.m. will be counted tardy.

2.  Please help us keep Pick up and Drop off times safe by following our traffic rules.  If you don't want to use the drop-off/Pick-up lane, please park.  Please observe the stop sign and don't speed in our parking lot.

3.  For lunches, we continue to encourage you not to send any Tree Nut/Peanut products for lunch or snack.   We understand that this may burden for some families and hope that the School Advisory Committee can come up with some procedures to accommodate all our students' needs.

4.  Please continue checking the Google calendar on our CIS website to stay abreast of upcoming meetings and school activities.

5.   Our School Advisory Committee advises the Head of School on school procedures and makes recommendations to the Governing Council regarding school policies.  The SAC is made up of parents from each grade level and we are in need of parent representatives.  If you are interested please join us at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4th.

6.  We are also in need of parent representatives to sit on the board of the CIS Foundation.  If you are interested in joining and leading within the CIS Foundation Board please email me diaz@corralesis.org as soon as possible.  The primary role of the CIS Foundation is to raise funds for our permanant school building.

Thank you for all you do to support our school and your children.

I hope you have a wonderful week.

Respectfully

Dr. Elsy Diaz, Head of School

Activities for parents

  • Encourage your child to read books at home that correspond to the topics being covered in school.
  • Ask your child about what they are learning in school and engage them in conversations about it:

"Why do you think that is an important thing to know about?"

"Can you think of anything happening in the world today that might be similar to that aspect of History?"

  • Encourage your child to become familiar with current events and to read the newspaper and watch the news when appropriate.

Student Drop-off and Pick-up

Families are instructed to drop off and pick up students at the entrance to the school that is located off of Midway Park Blvd. (Drop off and Pick up Map).  Drop off begins at 7:30 a.m. Students will be supervised in the playground or indoors on inclement weather days.  Pick-up begins at 3:00 p.m. for PYP students and 3:15 for MYP students (M, T, Th, F) and 12:30 p.m. on Wednesdays for PYP students and 12:45 for MYP students.

Parents pick-up students on the west side of the school (see map below). PYP students not picked up by 3:10; or MYP by 3:30 p.m. will be taken to after-care. There is a fee for the before/after school care.

Important  Guidelines

Some things to keep in mind are:

1)      These procedures were developed to keep all our students safe.

2)      Students may be dropped off or picked-up only in the designated lane

3)      Once you choose to use the drop-off/pick-up area you cannot back out or drive around.

4)      If you use the drop-off/pick-up area you must stay in your car.

5)      If you prefer you can park in the designated areas and walk your child.  If you choose ot park near the chain link fence along the south end, please allow space between your car and the fence for our students to walk.

6)      If you are not within the drop-off/pick-up area you will need to wait.

7)      Only cars within the drop-off/pick-up area will be able to pick-up or drop-off students.

8)      If you have students needing assistance with their booster seats, you may want to park and walk your child.  The drop-off/pick-up lane needs to maintain a continuous flow.

9)      You cannot drop/pick up your student(s) in the front of the school, during the times of 8:00-8:30 a.m. or 3:00-3:30 p.m. Please use the back parking lot.  Please do not enter the back lot before dismissal.
