Nutritional Lunches

We  encourage families to pack the healthiest lunches and snacks for their children.   We strongly discourage energy drinks or soft drinks at the school and hope that families will choose drinks that are not high in sugar or caffeine.   Our School Advisory Committee will be considering some guidelines for school lunches and hope that families will provide some input for our discussions.

  IMPORTANT NOTICE
This school year we will not be able to have any type of nuts or peanuts at our school.   We have some children attending our school that are extremely allergic.  Even the powder and oils of nuts or peanuts could be detrimental to their health.  Please be cautious in packing your child's lunch and do not send any snacks or food that contains peanuts or tree nuts.

Thanks

  • Thanks to all of the CIS families that came out for the recent Hola! event.  It was fantastic to see so many in attendance!

  • Thanks to MYP student, Tony Bird, for volunteering your lunch time to read to the our Kindergarten class during Library Time!
  • Thanks to CIS parent, Tim Fogarty for assistance with our recent portable classroom setup process!

Dear CIS Families,

Thank you to all of the families that attended last week's Hola! Open House event.  It was great to see so many of you in attendance.

As we start the new school week, please be mindful of our pick-up and drop-off policy (please review below).  This policy was created to safeguard the safety of your children during a very busy traffic period of our day.  The process is safest and moves most smoothly when all involved follow the rules.  As a reminder, please do not to park in the drive through lane in the back lot and if you choose to park along the south chain link fence and get out of your vehicle, please leave walking space in between your car and the chain link fence.

Thank you for helping us keep your children safe!

I hope you had a relaxing weekend and I look forward to seeing you around CIS this week!

 Respectfully,

Dr. Elsy Diaz
Head of School
===================================

The Learner Profile for the Month of August is:

Inquirers

Inquirers develop their natural curiosity. They acquire the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and research and show independence in learning. They actively enjoy learning and this love of learning will be sustained throughout their lives.

Activities for parents

  • Encourage areas of your child's interest by visiting the library to borrow books that explore these topics.
  • Develop an understanding of the Internet. Work with your son or daughter when the Internet is being used and try to instill the understanding that some Internet sites are not reputable.
  • Model being an Inquirer. Admit when you don't know the answer to a problem or a question and seek out answers in front of your child.
I hope you have a wonderful week.

Respectfully

Dr. Elsy Diaz, Head of School

Parents pick-up students on the west side of the school (see map below). PYP students not picked up by 3:10; or MYP by 3:30 p.m. will be taken to after-care. There is a fee for the before/after school care.

Important  Guidelines

Some things to keep in mind are:

1)      These procedures were developed to keep all our students safe.

2)      Students may be dropped off or picked-up only in the designated lane

3)      Once you choose to use the drop-off/pick-up area you cannot back out or drive around.

4)      If you use the drop-off/pick-up area you must stay in your car.

5)      If you prefer you can park in the designated areas and walk your child.  If you choose ot park near the chain link fence along the south end, please allow space between your car and the fence for our students to walk.

6)      If you are not within the drop-off/pick-up area you will need to wait.

7)      Only cars within the drop-off/pick-up area will be able to pick-up or drop-off students.

8)      If you have students needing assistance with their booster seats, you may want to park and walk your child.  The drop-off/pick-up lane needs to maintain a continuous flow.

9)      You cannot drop/pick up your student(s) in the front of the school, during the times of 8:00-8:30 a.m. or 3:00-3:30 p.m. Please use the back parking lot.  Please do not enter the back lot before dismissal.

New Lunch Service
NAMA CATERING COMPANY

Dear Families of Corrales International School,

My name is Jamie Belen and I would like to introduce myself as well as my business to you. I am excited about offering child friendly, delicious, healthy meals to your children at Corrales International School this year, and I look forward to what I hope will be a long productive relationship with you and your children.

I am a parent too. I know that parents want their children to eat healthy meals so their learning is enhanced, and we worry about what they eat when we are not with them. I know the morning stress getting our kids off to school on time, and the challenge of packing a nutritious lunch each day. I know we don't want to pay for meals that our children won't eat. For all these reasons, I began NaMa Catering.

NaMa is a catering company that serves the Albuquerque Charter and the Private School market. NaMa offers creative, colorful, organic, local and delicious lunch for students. Most people make the assumption that "school lunch" food means ordinary, processed, cafeteria food. NaMa catering will inject new life into the kids lunch market, using seasonal, creative new options.

From one parent to another, thank you for the opportunity of nourishing you children. I hope to meet with you regularly to get your feedback and to work together for healthy happy kids. You can reach me anytime at jamie@namacatering.com.
