We need you!! We know everyone can't make it to the meetings and some people may be confused about how to get involved. We are searching for one representative from each class to agree to communicate PTA info to other parents. Please contact Megan Walsh to get involved. This responsibility will fulfill the required three hours of volunteer time per family. Email mmwalsh@swcp.com or call 505-934-4875.

Check out the CIS PTA website at

PARENT SUPPORT
The Nurtured Heart workshops put on by the PTA's Healthy Families Initiative were such a hit that we've decided to continue meeting once a month! The group will focus on different topics each month related to parenting issues. This month's meeting will be focused on Trust-based Relational Parenting-basically how to increase the trust and build positive relationships with your children. Join us this Monday at 5:15 in the CIS library. Childcare is provided. If you have ideas for future topics, please contact Megan Walsh at mmwalsh@swcp.com

Dear CIS Families:

As some of you may know, some teachers and staff will not be returning next school year.  Of the current staff of 30 there are 11 staff members not returning next school year. Your concern over the number of personnel changes in staff for the upcoming school year is understandable.

I wish that I could offer you a more in-depth explanation but there are restrictions concerning what I can share both legally and ethically. I can share with you that every employee is leaving for their own personal reasons and many of the changes were not expected.

I am at liberty to say however, that 2 teachers of the 11 staff members are our Chinese teacher, Mr. Zhao, whose two-year term is over and must return to China (his replacement from China has already been identified by The Confucius Institute at New Mexico State University) and Mr. Luna, our teacher from Spain, who is continuing his travels and moving to Vietnam.

While we will miss everyone who has chosen to pursue other options, it is important that we continue with the vision and mission of this charter.  I hope and predict that by next fall you'll notice CIS has continued to improve and move our International Baccalaureate program forward.

At this time the interviews have begun for the positions of Mathematics, Spanish, Science, and Language Arts.  I will be placing the advertisement for a fifth grade teacher on Monday.

We currently have two MYP parents on the interview committee along with two staff members who are also parents. In addition, our Business Manager and I are on the interview committee.  I would like to have an additional two parents on the committee, so if you would like to volunteer, please email me (diaz@corralesis.org) as soon as possible.  I am scheduling interviews for this week, Monday thru Friday from 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.  You do not have to commit to the entire week.

At the conclusion of the hiring process, I will update you with new employee names and short bios, so that they can be made welcome to our community.   I hope that we can set up a series of welcoming receptions for our new teachers throughout the summer.

I cannot emphasize enough how important your child's relationship with his/her teacher is to me. Please don't hesitate to email me or call me to schedule an appointment if you would like to meet with me regarding your child.  My door is always open to meet with individual parents regarding any concerns they may have about their child.

Respectfully,

Dr. Elsy Diaz

Head of School
