We need you!! We know everyone can't make it to the meetings and some people may be confused about how to get involved. We are searching for one representative from each class to agree to communicate PTA info to other parents. Please contact Megan Walsh to get involved. This responsibility will fulfill the required three hours of volunteer time per family. Email mmwalsh@swcp.com or call 505-934-4875.

Check out the CIS PTA website at

PARENT SUPPORT

Join us this Monday at 5:15 in the CIS library. Childcare is provided. If you have ideas for future topics, please contact Megan Walsh at mmwalsh@swcp.com

                        MYP News

In our journey towards MYP IB authorization, some modifications in our school schedule are planned for next school year. The educational approach in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program is one that goes beyond the traditional school subjects. MYP requires not only an in-depth study of each subject with an emphasis on how the subjects are interrelated. The eight MYP academic subjects include: mathematics, arts, language A (English), language B (foreign language), social studies, technology, physical education, and sciences.

Additionally, each subject emphasizes the Approaches to Learning to build life-long-learning skills. These are the Approaches to Learning (ATL) that are integrated into lessons:

  • collaborative skills
  • organizational skills and attitudes towards work
  • communication
  • information literacy
  • reflection
  • problem-solving and thinking skills
  • subject-specific and interdisciplinary conceptual understanding

Please review the attached MYP draft course schedule  for next school year. Some of the new features of the schedule include:
  • Scheduling subjects in groups in order to afford the opportunity for MYP teachers to plan and implement interdisciplinary lessons. For example, Mathematics and Science; Language Arts and Social Studies are scheduled together to provide increased opportunities for teachers to team teach and collaborate.
  • Students will also be scheduled into an Enrichment Class to address student specific learning needs. This will be a time for students to receive SPED, Gifted Services, work on a project, or an area of need with a teachers.   It is expected that this will provide much needed time to address specific learning needs.  This is additional resource for our students in addition to after school tutoring.
  • Instead of 90 minute class periods students will receive 45 minutes of instruction on most days except on Wednesdays.
  • Students are scheduled to receive instruction in Mathematics, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Chinese 4 days per week. Spanish and Technology /Design are scheduled for 5 days a week.
  • Wednesdays has been scheduled in such a way as to provide additional time for teachers teaching the core subjects Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts to plan and collaborate. These core teachers have the primary responsibility of:
    • Aligning the IBO subject Aims and Objectives with the New Mexico Common Core Standards.
    • Developing interdisciplinary units with another core subject and include Music, Art, Spanish, Chinese, or technology
    • Guiding and leading MYP teachers in developing an MYP Language Policy and Assessment Policy

Next school year, will also include some curricular changes to align our course of study with Dual Credit courses offered at CNM (Central New Mexico Community College) for students in grades 10th, 11th, and 12th.   Dual Credit courses provide New Mexico students opportunities to get high school credit and college credit. Please click on the following link to review CNM's Dual Credit parent presentation. DUAL CREDIT ENROLLMENT

Along with these curricular and scheduling changes, we will also be interviewing for experienced personnel with subject and IB MYP expertise. Parents interested in participating in these interviews are encouraged to email Dr. Diaz at diaz@corralesis.org for details.

CIS YEARBOOK INFO!
Dear CIS Parents:

Dear Parents and CIS students,

Unfortunately, due to a multitude of problems, the Flashback yearbook will not be delivered prior to the last day of school. It was our hope to meet the submission deadline in order to get the books back in enough time to allow students the opportunity to sign each other's books before the end on the school year. Regrettably, we missed that deadline and now it seems, the yearbooks will not arrive until after the 24th of May.

We plan to have a "Signing Party,' the first or second week after school (depending on when they are delivered) in which the students can pick up their yearbooks and sign each other's. And, of course, students can also receive their yearbooks at the beginning of the school year in August.

We sincerely apologize for the unfortunate delay. If any students would like to cancel their order and be reimbursed for their payment, they need only to contact Maestra Bratton by email (Brattons@corralesis) to make that request. Again, we regret the delay but continue to work to make the Flashback a great way to remember the 2012-2013 school year.

Sincerely,

Shellee Bratton, Yearbook Sponsor.
