Dear CIS Families:
I want to thank all of you for supporting your child/children during MAPS testing. Below are the results of the testing by grade level. The chart shows the percentage of students that scored at/above the 50th percentile.
For example, 55% of the students in Kindergarten scored at or above the 50th percentile in Reading while 60% of them scored at/above the 50th percentile in Mathematics. Our goal is to get 100% of ours students scoring at/above the 50th percentile. A student who scores at the 50th percentile is learning and performing at grade level.
Students that are not scoring at the 50 percentile need to be attending tutoring. If you would like to know your child's test result, please email your child's teacher.
There are some grade levels where several students did not meet the expected gain and those are a great concern to us. This week we will be contacting parents within these grade levels to set up a meeting to discuss how we can support the learning of these students.

Activities for parents
- Involve your child in deciding on the rules for a game or activity and then ensure that they stick to the ones that have been decided upon.
- Encourage your child to play games that involve teams. Discuss with your child the qualities of a team player. What sort of person would they want on their team?
- When your child wins a game insist that he or she is a well-mannered winner. They might thank their opponent or shake hands with them if it's appropriate.
- When playing a game, don't change the rules or let your child win. Being a gracious loser is just as important as being a good winner.
