Corrales International School

Dear CIS Families:
Tomorrow is our last day before we break for Thanksgiving.  School will resume on November 27th.

For those of you that are joining us for the Thanksgiving Luncheon, here is the lunch schedule so you can eat with your child.  If you have several children at the school and would like to eat with them together, please speak with Ms. Patti our receptionist to arrange a time for your children to be released for lunch.   Please note that lunch will be available only for parents that pre-ordered their lunch.

Kindergarten - First Grade  10:55 a.m. - 11:40 p.m.
Sixth - Tenth Grade 11:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
Second - Fifth Grade  12:20 p.m.- 1:05 p.m.

Please arrive a few minutes early so you may have time to sign-in at the front desk.  We wish you a restful Thanksgiving Break.

Respectfully,
Dr. Elsy Diaz

Project Peace Pal

Dear CIS Community,

As you may be aware the MYP students at CIS are in their second year of involvement in an international pen pal program sponsored by a local non-profit called Project PeacePal. PeacePal facilitates the links between our classes and classes in Nepal, Ghana, and Togo. They also support the students and classrooms that we write to through their Adopt-a-Classroom program. Additionally, our students have raised funds for their Stamp Out Malaria campaign, which provides bed nets to families in western Africa (each bed net protects two people and only costs $5). Our relationship with PeacePal has really given a lot to our students and fostered the IB mission of the school through expanding their international mindedness and supporting their community service programs.

This holiday season you can shop for those you love and spread peace!

The Barnes & Noble in the Coronado Center is supporting Project PeacePal by giving them a percentage of all the purchases at the store from Friday the 23rd to Sunday the 25th of November. If you can't make it to the store for the "bookfair" you can go to BN.com/bookfairs and use the Bookfair ID: 10707875 from the 23rd to the 30th of November. Please see the attached flyer for more details.

While you are there say hi to the CIS students that will be volunteering with PeacePal.  Barnes and Noble Flyer

IB Learner Profile:  CARING
IB LEARNER PROFILE
CARING

Students who are CARING want people around them to be happy and are sensitive to their needs. They think about the world and work to take care of their community and the environment. They remember to treat others how they themselves would like to be treated.

How can parents help to develop students who are Caring at home?

  1. Role model the caring behavior you would like to see in your child all the time. Your child has big eyes and ears and notices everything you do. Using kind words, helping people without being asked, being an active listener all show your child that you care about people. Even a simple thing, like holding a door for someone, shows your child that you are aware of others around you and want to help them.
  2. Think about how your family can get involved with community organizations.
  3. Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. Sometimes this can be challenging for busy families, but make the effort to establish these habits in your home. By developing children who care about the environment, you are helping the future of the globe.
  4. Smile.
  5. After reading a book, spend some time considering how the people in the book acted. Was someone in the book caring? All of the time or just some of the time? Were all of the characters in the book caring or just some of them? Some books to consider:

Lily's Purple Plastic Purse, Kevin Henkes

The Giving Tree, Shel Silverstein

Yertle the Turtle, Dr. Seuss

The Grouchy Ladybug, Eric Carle
