Corrales International School Newsletter
Issue: #

August 27, 2012

Dear CIS Families:

We had a pretty nice week last week.  As we continue with our school year, we will reinforce our classroom and school routines.  An important routine in our school is our uniform.   Hopefully everyone has now received their school uniform shirt.   If this is not the case, please email me at elsy@corralesinternationalschool.org.   This week I will begin sending emails and making phone calls to parents of students not wearing their uniform shirts.  Our school's dress code requires that all our students wear a uniform shirt with our CIS logo.  Here are some things to keep in mind regarding our uniform shirts:

1. Though girls may choose to wear colorful undershirts with their polo's, the undershirts should not be seen.  Undershirts must be tucked in at all times.

2.  School shirts may not be tied in knots at the waist.

3.  The length of the shirts should be above mid-thigh.

4.  Sweatshirts, hoodies, or jackets can not be worn inside.  Hoods on jackets should be worn only on cold weather days, not indoors, or on warm weather days.

5. Absolutely no hats may be worn inside the school building.

As with all school routines, we ask for your help in reinforcing this uniform policy.   Thank you for your support of our school and your student.

Have a wonderful week!

Respectfully,

Dr. Elsy Diaz
Head of School/Director/Principal

IB Learner Profile: INQUIRER.

Inquirers develop their natural curiosity. They acquire the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and research and show independence in learning. They actively enjoy learning and this love of learning will be sustained throughout their lives. Through our lessons, we emphasize the importance of asking questions in order to learn.

Activities for parents

  • Ask your child every day "What question did you ask today?"
  • Encourage areas of your child's interest by visiting the library to borrow books that explore these topics.
  • Develop an understanding of the Internet. Work with your son or daughter when the Internet is being used and try to instill the understanding that some Internet sites are not reputable.
  • Model being an Inquirer. Admit when you don't know the answer to a problem or a question and seek out answers in front of your child.

ATTENTION MYP PARENTS

Dear CIS Parents:

Thank you to all of our amazing families that have come to either help remove locks and/or donated money to purchase replacement locks for our MYP lockers.

Once the locks are purchased, we will need several terrific adults to volunteer to come to the school to take off the old locks and replace them with the new locks.

Please contact Patti Brainard, our receptionist to donate $11.00 and/or to volunteer to help replace the locks.

Thank you for your generosity and school spirit!

Parent Drop-off/Pick-up

These procedures were developed to keep all our students safe.  Please be patient and kind to the teachers and staff who are helping ensure your child's safety.
All students are dismissed through the playground.  Please do not go to your child's classroom during dismissal.

  • Cross only where the crossing guard is with the stop sign.  PLEASE wait for her/him to help you cross.
  • DO NOT cross behind the guard, please make sure she/he acknowledges you and stops traffic.
  • Students may be dropped off or picked-up only in the designated lane. Once you choose to use the drop-off/pick-up area you cannot back out or drive around.
  • If you use the drop-off/pick-up area you must stay in your car.
  • If you prefer, you can park in the designated areas and walk your child into the building.
  • If you are not within the drop-off/pick-up area you will need to wait.
  • Only cars within the drop-off/pick-up area will be able to pick-up or drop-off students.
If you have students needing assistance with their booster seats, you may want to park and walk your child.  The drop-off/pick-up lane needs to maintain a continuous flow.

At 830 am, the back gate will be closed and locked. If you arrive late to school, please park in the front parking lot and enter through the front door.  You must accompany your child into the school and sign him or her in if you arrive late.
The back gate will remain locked until 230pm.  If you are visiting the school during the hours of 830 am and 230pm, please park in the front parking lot and enter thorugh the front door.  All school doors will be locked during school hours.
