Dear CIS Families:

I hope your children came home talking about the concept of Empathy and discussing our new discipline plan.   If not, ask them.

A copy of our new discipline plan was sent home with every student (yellow paper).  Please review the copy of the discipline plan and send the last page, signed, to your child's teacher ASAP.    The plan focuses our attention on the Qualities of Greatness that your child brings to school.   We often get so busy as parents that we forget to notice the awesome things our child accomplishes, most importantly we forget to tell them.  Remember, your child has only been on this Earth for a short time!  They learn so much so quickly.  Before sending your child to school tomorrow, highlight one Quality of Greatness for them.

These next six weeks we will be discussing the IB Learner Profile of what it means to be an INQUIRER.

Inquirers develop their natural curiosity. They acquire the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and research and show independence in learning. They actively enjoy learning and this love of learning will be sustained throughout their lives.  Through our lessons, we emphasize the importance of asking questions in order to learn.

Activities for parents

  • Ask your child every day "What question did you ask today?"
  • Encourage areas of your child's interest by visiting the library to borrow books that explore these topics.
  • Develop an understanding of the Internet. Work with your son or daughter when the Internet is being used and try to instill the understanding that some Internet sites are not reputable.
  • Model being an Inquirer. Admit when you don't know the answer to a problem or a question and seek out answers in front of your child.

Please read below for more information regarding upcoming events and don't forget that Wednesday, August 22, we have our Hola Open House, see below for more detials.

Have a wonderful week!

Respectfully,

Dr. Elsy Diaz
Head of School/Director/Principal

ATTENTION MYP PARENTS

Dear CIS Parents:

MYP received these terrific lockers for free this summer. Unfortunately, the combinations to the locks on the lockers were lost by the previous owner. We have consulted three (3) locksmiths and they have stated that it is practically impossible to recover the combinations for the locks.

So I am proposing the following: Each family of an MYP student, donate $11.00 to the school for the purpose of purchasing new locks for the lockers. Of course this donation is not mandatory.

Once the locks are purchased, we will need several terrific adults to volunteer to come to the school to take off the old locks and replace them with the new locks.

Please contact Patti Brainard, our receptionist to donate $11.00 and/or to volunteer to help replace the locks.

Parent Drop-off/Pick-up

These procedures were developed to keep all our students safe.  Please be patient and kind to the teachers and staff who are helping ensure your child's safety.
All students are dismissed through the playground.  Please do not go to your child's classroom during dismissal.

  • Cross only where the crossing guard is with the stop sign.  PLEASE wait for her/him to help you cross.
  • DO NOT cross behind the guard, please make sure she/he acknowledges you and stops traffic.
  • Students may be dropped off or picked-up only in the designated lane. Once you choose to use the drop-off/pick-up area you cannot back out or drive around.
  • If you use the drop-off/pick-up area you must stay in your car.
  • If you prefer, you can park in the designated areas and walk your child into the building.
  • If you are not within the drop-off/pick-up area you will need to wait.
  • Only cars within the drop-off/pick-up area will be able to pick-up or drop-off students.
If you have students needing assistance with their booster seats, you may want to park and walk your child.  The drop-off/pick-up lane needs to maintain a continuous flow.

At 830 am, the back gate will be closed and locked. If you arrive late to school, please park in the front parking lot and enter through the front door.  You must accompany your child into the school and sign him or her in if you arrive late.
The back gate will remain locked until 230pm.  If you are visiting the school during the hours of 830 am and 230pm, please park in the front parking lot and enter thorugh the front door.  All school doors will be locked during school hours.
