Dear CIS Families
Here are some MID-WEEK reminders of events these next two weeks.
------------------------------------------------
1. Join us at the MADRID EARTH DAY ARTS AND CRAFT FESTIVAL April 22, 2012 in Madrid, NM starting at 11:00 a.m. Our students under the supervision of Ms. Giannini worked on this amazing mural that will be displayed and auctioned on Sunday. This is a terrific way to celebrate Earth Day and a nice getaway for your family. Come out and join us!
2. The School Advisory Council will be meeting today to review the 2012-13 school operational budget. The meeting is at 5:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
3. The Governing Council Special meeting to review and approve the 2012-2012 school operational budget will be on April 25, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at CIS.
4. Fourth grade students have established a not for profit business to raise funds for the Runyan Rescue Ranch. They voted on a name for the business, and are calling it "Rescue Cranes". The 4th graders are folding tiny, beautiful paper cranes that are being made into jewelry and accessories and sold for donations.
They got their inspiration for the business from a recent novel they read, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes as part of their final unit entitled "Conflict Causes Change." The crane is also the worldwide symbol of peace. Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes teaches the meaning of the origami peace crane.
The Jewelry is beautiful, unique, and very meaningful with the crane connection to Corrales. As those who live in Corrales know, Corrales is a refuge for migrating Sandhill cranes .
The donations will be given to the Runyan Rescue Ranch to build additional pens for rescue animals. The jewelery will be sold at the Book Fair Family Night and in various businesses in Corrales.
The 4th grade class is hoping to raise $3000 to build the pens needed at the ranch.
5. The CIS Garage Sale is scheduled for May 19th. If you have any items to donate please bring them to the school. Volunteers for the Garage Sale are also needed.
