BACKPACK EXPRESS

Dear CIS Families:

Our students in grades 3rd thru 8th completed testing on the NMSBA.  Yay!!!   In celebration of their hard work, we will be having an Ice Cream Social for all the students on Friday, April 15th at 3:00 p.m.

We are also proud of our students, staff, and parents who participated in the Breast Cancer Awareness book collection on behalf of Nancy Light.  I hope you have had an opportunity to see the great pictures on our school's Facebook page.   They are truly inspirational.

Respectfully,

Dr. Elsy Diaz

SNOW DAYS MAKE-UP

Students in grades K-6th  will not need to make up snow days since they attend one-hour of school more than required by the New Mexico Public Education Department(NMPED).  Students in K-6th grade are required to attend 5 1/2 hours of school and our students attend school for 6 1/2 hours (not counting 30 minutes for lunch).  As a result, the last day of school for students in grades K-6th will be May 27th.

This is not the case for students in grades 7th - 8th grade.   Students in 7th - 8th grade are required by the NMPED to attend 6 hours of school.  Our students attend 6 1/2 hours (not counting 30 minutes for lunch). Therefore, students in 7th -8th grade will need to make up only 14 hours of school.   Our middle school students will make up these 14 hours on May 31 and June 1st.   Ms. Carrillo and Mr. Johnson will provide further information to the middle school parents and their students.

Are you an Intel Employee?  Are you aware of the following matching grant programs for volunteers?

1.  Intel Involved Matching Grant Program

The Intel Involved Matching Grant Program is a key adjunct of the Intel Involved Program. The program awards cash grants to schools and non-profit/non-governmental organizations world-wide based on the number of hours Intel employees volunteer. It is designed to engage employees in community outreach and recognizes their passion to donate their time and offer their skills to support the communities where they live and work. After a minimum of 20 hours has been accrued by Intel employees volunteering at a school or qualified nonprofit organization, a donation or "match " will be triggered from the Intel Foundation.  The grant is paid by Intel once a year, and hours must be reported by January 15 for the previous year.  Currently the grant rate is $200.00 for 20 hours of volunteering, and $10.00 for each hour after the initial 20.

* Employees of Intel need to access Intel Involved, and click on the "report hours" link to report hours for credit.  CIS is already in the system.

2.        Matching Gifts to Education Program

Intel currently matches 50% of donations made to a qualified non-profit.  Information about this program is also accessed through Circuit.  CIS is already in the system for this program also.
