Spring
Spring Into Cleaning with MERS/Goodwill

Spring has sprung, which means it is time to de-clutter and donate! Below are three simple tips to help you get your spring cleaning underway. Also, visit our website for donation locations.

1. Sentimental? Take a photo and then donate the item to Goodwill.

2. Turn all hanging clothes backwards. Reverse an item to the correct direction once it's worn. After six months, donate any clothing still backwards; if you haven't worn it by then, you probably never will.

3. Host an annual Spring cleaning party! Invite friends over to swap unwanted items and donate any extras to the nearest Goodwill location.

Remember: If it's good enough to share with friends, it's great for a MERS/Goodwill donation, and someone in your community will benefit and bring new life to your donation.

MovieWWWehrenberg Wednesdays in March!

Dear friend of MERS/Goodwill,

lewis-chartock

We are just a week away from the first official day of Spring, which means it is time to de-clutter and donate! Read the side bar with just a few of our Spring cleaning tips. Your donation to Goodwill is making a difference to improve the life of someone in our community.

As a matter of fact, the last month has been a very exciting time here at MERS/Goodwill. We not only opened a new store in Ferguson, we also hosted a ribbon cutting and open house at our new Autism Employment Center. Click HERE for more about the Center.

I'm also excited to share the latest client success story with you. Click HERE to read about Mitch Russell's experience finding a job through the help of our programs.

Finally, we have a great number of Spring promotions coming up! Back by popular demand is Wehrenberg Wednesdays. Click HERE to learn more. Also, keep an eye out for the upcoming Cardinals promotion next month!

Thank you for your continued support of MERS/Goodwill. Don't forget to donate!

Sincerely,

MERS/Goodwill Opens New Autism Employment Center

Located at the MERS/Goodwill-Lippman Center,
2545 S. Hanley Road, the new Autism Center has been specially designed to include features that meet the needs of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The new 6,000-square-foot addition provides a place where people with ASD can go to begin or continue their transition to self-sufficiency.

MERS/Goodwill received a $100,000 grant from the St. Louis County Productive Living Board and a $121,504 grant from the Simon Foundation to help fund the new Autism Center. The organization also received a grant from Autism Speaks to provide new iPads for clients to use in one of the group rooms.

Mitch Russell
Printing Machine Operator
PDG Printing

On March 1, 2013, Mitch Russell celebrated his one-year anniversary working as a printing machine operator at PDG Printing in Cape Girardeau. For Mitch, it's hard to imagine that just over a year ago he relocated from Illinois and was going on two years of unemployment. Despite having a strong background in the printing industry, Mitch, like many others, had struggled to find steady employment in the midst of the recession. Unlike many others, however, Mitch is hearing impaired and keeping his Social Security Disability Insurance benefits depended on him finding a steady job.

That's when Mitch found MERS/Goodwill. Following a counselor's visit at South East Missouri Alliance for Disability Independence, Inc. (SADI), he was encouraged to see Missouri's Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, and was recommended to work with a Case Manager with first-hand experience with local employers. Mitch was paired with Julie Casey, Director at MERS/Goodwill's Cape Girardeau Career Center.
