April 2013
Greetings!
earthday
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.  On Monday, April 22nd* we celebrate Earth Day and this newsletter will give you a glimpse into some of the things we do to make sustainability is a way of life.

*We will be celebrating it two days earlier, on April 20th, at the
Our commitment to sustainability
new roaster At the Village Roaster, we chose to make a difference in our business a long time ago, so that commitment has been at the core of every business decision we have made over the years. Below is a list of some sustainability actions we've taken through the years:
  • The latest and greatest addition is a Diedrich roaster that pollutes less and draws far less energy; it's also U.S. made, a priority in decision-making.
  • New printed to-go cups are on their way; the result of an eco-quest that arose from having a booth at the Lakewood 2012 Earth Day.
  • Lighting at the Village Roaster flagship location has been retrofitted following a review by BEEP, Business Energy Education Program.
  • Village Roaster also uses a sustainable network of suppliers from around the world, including ecologically conscious growers.
  • Coffee grounds generated by Village Roaster are provided to local gardeners and make effective compost.
  • Milk comes in rinse and return bottles diverting hundreds of gallon jugs weekly from area landfills.
  • And, cardboard, paper and glass are recycled (including 160-200 glass bottles of flavorings for our espresso bar beverages per month).
Tea & Tea Products
sumatra tea
Sumatra is not just a wonderful coffee flavor - it's our newest black tea!
Sumatra tea has a fruity flavor, almost melon-like, that is slightly brisk.
Did you know that tea is grown in the same climate as coffee...so it only makes sense that this tea shares a name with coffee!
t-sac
Are you looking for an easy, environmentally friendly way to drink loose leaf tea? Look no further! We carry "T-Sac" unbleached tea filters and this new generation of tea filters is different in appearance and in the various sizes offered: for one mug servings right up to a large pot. The patented filter opening enables this filter to stand up by itself and the bottom fold opens automatically which provides enough volume for the tea to properly infuse.
