4-H International Exchange Program

Dear Michigan 4-H Families and Leaders, 

 

Michigan 4-H is hosting international exchange youth and host families are needed. Complete information including host family applications, outbound applications for summer 2013, list of countries and exchange dates, and the 2013 4-H Exchange Opportunities for Travel and Hosting documents are posted on the 4-H web site.

 

When you call or email the coordinator of one of these programs, be sure to let him or her know in which county you are located.

Poland Summer Inbound Exchange

Poland will be sending 18 youth and 2 chaperones to be hosted in Michigan from June 21 to July 19, 2013. The 14- to 17-year old delegates and their short biographies can be found on the Michigan 4-H web site.

Japan Summer Inbound Exchange

Families are needed for 45 Japanese delegates from the ages of 12 to 17 and 4 Japanese chaperones. They will be in Michigan from July 27 to August 23, 2013. The delegates and their short biographies can be found on the Michigan 4-H web site.

Year-Long Students for the 2013-2014 School Year

Host family The year-long high school exchange students spend a school year with a host family, usually for their junior or senior year. Some of these year-long students come from Japan through 4-H partners Labo or LEX. Others come to us through the FLEX program run by the United States Department of State with former Soviet countries such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan or Ukraine. The 15- to 17-year-olds are:

 

Ema,a 16-year-old girl from Japan, enjoys roller skating, movies, running, camping, watching TV, volleyball, playing drums and singing.

 

Mukhammeddiyar,a 17-year-old male from Kazakhstan, likes soccer, basketball, volleyball, swimming, school clubs, spending time with friends, ballroom dancing and watching movies. Note: Does not eat pork.

 

Muzhgan,a 17-year-old girl from Azerbaijan, enjoys basketball, volleyball, dancing playing a musical instrument, reading, watching television and videos, writing, listening to music. Note: Does not eat pork.

 

Natsuki,a 16-year-old girl from Japan, enjoys soccer, tennis, reading, listening to American pop music, hiking, drawing and animals.

 

Natsumi, a 15-year-old girl from Japan, enjoys belonging to a unicycle club, bowling, computers, reading, shopping, eating and listening to music.

 

Nikita, a 17-year-old boy from Russia, enjoys skiing, rowing, soccer, pets, camping/camp counselor, boxing, computers, reading, he is class president and has an interest in geology

 

Shiho, a 17-year-old girl from Japan, enjoys singing, playing piano, swimming, listening to music, She is interested in volunteering with young children, refugees or orphans.

 

Shintaro, a 17-year-old old male from Japan, enjoys baseball, bowling, school clubs, video games, martial arts and reading.

 

Valeriya,a 17-year-old girl from the Ukraine, enjoys photography, painting, reading, school clubs, spending time with friends, watching TV and videos, massage therapy (taking a class), swimming, bowling, ice skating, cooking, indoor plants and flowers, and listening to pop music.
