In 2008, the LWHRA Board of Directors realized the Chapter had outgrown itself in many areas. The Board was looking for an opportunity to outsource many of the management duties that are associated with the day-to-day activities of a thriving association. After a thorough process, Ann Macfarlane and Andrew Estep were selected in early 2009.
Andrew is a Certified Association Executive and was the Washington State Association Management Executive of the Year in 2012 and is LWHRA's Executive Director. Ann, a Certified Association Executive and Professional Registered Parliamentarian, assists the board of directors with compliance and planning.
So just what does the office do for LWHRA? In a nutshell, the responsibilities include:
- Association management
- Board of Director support
- Financial management
- Membership management
- Marketing and Publications
- Website management
- Monthly meeting support
- Oversight of Strategic Education Series, Certification Preparation Classes, various Committees, and
- Symposium planning/marketing and vendor and venue coordination.
In a typical month, the responds to about 1,000 emails and 30-50 phone calls with current and prospective members, sponsors and presenters. They play an integral role in ensuring our committees are on track, our board of directors is thinking strategically and that our members are being well served. Because of this amazing staff and the board's confidence in their abilities, we recently authorized an expansion of their services in such areas as Symposium support, Board Governance, website and social media maintenance and Partnership Program coordination.
