You may know that LWHRA is one of about 20 "Super-Mega" SHRM Chapters in the United States. We've achieved this status because we have over 1,000 SHRM members who are affiliated with our Chapter. There are many reasons we have this many members: everything from excellent programming, outstanding certification courses, frequent networking opportunities and a mentorship program that is setting the example nationwide. There really are a number of initiatives that we should be proud of.
Did you know, however, that SHRM can be a resource for you as well? SHRM employs 360 employees who serve 260,000 members worldwide in 140 different countries? Yes, SHRM is a vibrant and active organization and their website (www.shrm.org
) is a wealth of information. Here are four quick tips that you may not have known about SHRM's services or their website:
- Research Concierge Service: You need research to back your initiative you're pitching to the Board next week but don't have the time to do the work yourself. Not to fear, SHRM's Research Concierge Service is here! These folks can do all the research for you. Simply present your need or challenge, and they'll do all the hard work - collecting, analyzing and organizing the information you need to make smart, evidence-based decisions for your organization.
- Templates & Samples: This section of the SHRM website is chalk full of How-to-Guides, Toolkits and Sample Presentations. Need to train your supervisors on FMLA? No problem, a PowerPoint has already been created for you. Wondering how to pitch that new Wellness Program to your CEO? SHRM has you covered.
- Managing Smart: You've been tasked with kicking out periodic communications and/or newsletters and you've got writer's block. Not to worry. Managing Smart is in the Publications section of the SHRM website and provides you with newsletter/email-ready content regarding a range of topics. For spring 2013, Training and Leadership articles are plentiful.
- HR Answers: You're just looking to chat with another HR professional regarding an issue your CEO just presented you with. Your LWHRA buddies took the week off and you're stuck but need to talk to another HR professional. SHRM's HR Answers service is staffed by experienced, certified HR professionals and they're ready to talk your ear off and provide friendly advice. They are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. EST.
So, the next time you're looking for some help to do your job better or more efficiently, turn to your friendly SHRM staff and their robust website. You won't be disappointed!
