Fiscal Model for Early Childhood
Tuesday, August 25, 1:00-2:30 pm
Announcing the third webinar in the seminal joint KWIC/ECAC series this summer, you are invited to join the policy discussion: What is the necessary funding to increase Universal PreKindergarten (UPK) for all 4 year olds in New York State?; and What would be the community benefit if every infant born in 2016 received home visiting services?

Feel free to submit YOUR policy question to  Stephanie Woodard by Wednesday, August 12.  In the subject line please specify "Policy Question."

This Fiscal Model supports the work of fiscal and policy makers, and people who are interested in strategic planning to support an early childhood system for children birth to five and their families. For more info, go to the Fiscal Model website

September is Attendance Awareness Month - Posters & Materials Available
Every Student Present
Every Student Present Poster

Back To School! Every Student Present is a public awareness campaign directed toward parents of young children.  The campaign is designed to help parents know about the detrimental impact of poor school attendance.

Many health issues can influence children's attendance and while it may sound very basic, in New York State we have some districts where as many as 40% of kindergarten and first grade students miss a month or more of school.  Clearly, this influences children's ability to learn, stay on track and graduate. Parents indicate they are aware of the importance of good school attendance for their older children but don't realize the impact on younger students. The goal of this campaign is to increase parents' awareness and help them foster the habit of good attendance - something that will help their children during their school years and when they are in the workforce.

Posters, Web Links, Parent Fliers and a Community Toolkit are just a few of the resources available on the Every Student Present website

Fixing New York's Leaky Pipeline
In New York, only 23 of 100 ninth graders graduate from college.

The Council on Children and Families and our partner's at NYS Department of Labor developed the Fixing New York's Leaky Pipeline poster to showcase ways to help plug the leaks.
