Greetings from the Executive Director
Ground Breaking 2015
Last week we joyously held a ground breaking ceremony for our new Kennel and Education Center that will allow us to expand the service dog programs (Hounds for Heroes and Special Dogs for Special Needs), the job training and placement program for adults with challenges (S+CORE!) and all our general public education programs, including summer camps.

Right now, we are going thru the permitting process with the City of Cedar Park and anticipate having machines and crews on property starting early October.  We planned to start this month, but things don't always go my way.  :)

This project is being funded by our community. Everyday, I feel truly blessed by how generous everyone is when it comes to helping those who are less fortunate.

On another note, please join me in welcoming two wonderful new staff members.  Gio Giovanetti, a vocational trainer with LISD has joined us part time to help with the job skills program.  She will have an expanded role in January after she retires from the school district.  Paula Baker Prince, a professional dog trainer with over 15 years of dog training experience, will be starting with rally and dog manners on Sundays and agility on Tuesday evenings.

Take care,
Debi Krakar

Phase II New Hope Ranch Begins
The next phase of New Hope Ranch a 3,000 square foot Boarding Kennel and Education center has begun. The center will house a kennel and additional training space. We expect to be celebrating its grand opening in March 2016.

Another part of this new phase is a Tribute Garden to honor and memorialize Veterans, Family, Friends, and Beloved Pets including Service and Therapy dogs. The path through the garden will be lined with engraved bricks. Learn more about the Pave the Way Brick campaign.
Bow Wow Reading Teams Assemble!
Visit Courage's Blog
Each fall a silent squadron of volunteers spread out across the Austin area infiltrating our public schools. Each team is equipped with a background check, a badge, months of training, a patient and caring human, and an eager yet gentle furry friend. These Austin Dog Alliance Bow Wow Reading Teams all have one goal: Help children fall in love with reading.

One of our Bow Wow Reading teams decided to share their love of reading through a blog called Courage2Read.

When volunteer Morgan Landrum and her dog Courage would read with children at their elementary school or library, sometimes children wanted to ask questions more than they wanted to read. To help the children focus on reading, she launched a blog. "Now they can go and find some answers to their questions, plus some other fun stuff about dogs and books," said Landrum.

Courage's posts include really fun book reviews, original book cover art, dog treat recipes, and interviews. There's even an interview with our own Executive Director Debi Krakar. Courage also accepts submissions from his fans!

Austin Dog Alliance's Bow Wow Reading teams currently visit 104 schools, libraries, and after school programs. Most teams donate about 60 hours of their time over one school year, not including transportation time. Please consider a donation to Austin Dog Alliance to support the on-going effort to encourage young and reluctant readers!
