Dear  :

What a glorious time we had on the mission field in South Africa!  Thank you for praying for us and sending us to preach the Gospel, and to share the wonderful love of Jesus with so many people who need Him!

Our team of seven Americans, along with our South African partners:

1)    Reached more than 17,347 people with a clear presentation of the Gospel through twenty-seven school programs, four days of evangelism training conference sessions and church services, and four tent meetings.

2)    Helped with the distribution of (according to the most updated reports from our partners in South Africa) 6,853 New Testaments, with Psalms, Proverbs, and the Plan of Salvation included, to students in the schools.

3)    Saw God do incredible things, and are so grateful to Him for allowing us to be used for His kingdom purposes!  We are including in this email (below), with their permission, a letter from Trish and Conrad DeGrace, longtime friends and supporters of DSEA, who traveled with us on the mission in South Africa, and were able to see and  experience first-hand what God did.  We know you will be encouraged by their testimony of God's faithfulness, as were we.  Conrad is a Wounded Warrior, having served in Iraq with our military in the war on terror.  He and Trish are active in leadership with the praise and worship ministry of their church, and with Wounded Warrior ministries.

4)    Took some fantastic photos of the whole team at work while on mission, and many of the people whose lives were changed by the Word of God and the work of the Holy Spirit.  You will be encouraged and blessed when you view some of the incredible shots of African wildlife and landscapes we were privileged to see, including lions, rhinos, elephants, giraffe, zebra, warthogs, hippos, and more!  Please visit our website at  www.davidstockwell.org to view a slideshow of photographs taken by Team Member, Callie Renaud, who has an amazing eye for photography.

(5, 6, and 7 are mentioned in the DeGraces' letter, in the newsletter block below!)

We depart tomorrow for our next mission in Queimados, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, September 5-17.  Please pray with us as we reach out to Brazilians with the Gospel through school and church outreach programs.  Thank you again for your prayer, friendship and support.  We are so grateful to God for you!

Your friend and partner in the Gospel,

David

Dear David, Amy, and Friends,

Conrad and I would like to extend our deepest appreciation for allowing us to partner with you on the recent mission trip to South Africa. Upon our return, Conrad and I took some time to discuss our journey with DSEA, concluding that the entire experience was literally "life-changing" for both of us.

Conrad has financially and prayerfully supported DSEA since its onset, and after we married, I wanted to get to know the Stockwells and understand better what it is that DSEA does.  Upon completion of our trip to South Africa with DSEA, the impact for both Conrad and for me was so great that we've not only decided to remain faithful partners, but through prayer and confirmation from the Lord, we are quadrupling our original monthly contribution.

What we witnessed in South Africa was nothing short of the Hand of God in action.  From start to finish, the DSEA team proved to us that they have worked hard to build a spiritually sound and credible organization which passionately strives to serve the Lord and win souls for the kingdom at all cost.  As we witnessed this well-organized, highly professional, mission-focused, Christ-like team with superior integrity and, most importantly, a genuine and sincere love toward others, we were overjoyed to have played a small part in what God is doing all over this world, through DSEA.  It was suddenly obvious to us that our monthly contributions "were" making a difference.

David and Steven spoke with such power and the anointing that was upon them was indescribable.  David exhibited great spiritual wisdom and humility while the passion that Steven has for Jesus Christ radiated from his eyes every time he preached.  Steven is truly gifted to teach.  We were tremendously blessed to witness the presence of the Holy Spirit fall upon the crowds (adults and children alike) as Amy shared her gift of singing.  It was a beautiful thing to watch hands rising all over the place in reverence to our Lord Jesus Christ.

As we visited local schools, I paid very close attention when Amy spoke about "True Love Waits."  I wanted to see if these kids were really paying attention or not and sure enough, they were.  I was especially moved when I noticed a visible change in the faces of the young girls during Amy's talk.  They seemed to start out with a look of emptiness and hopelessness but by the time Amy finished, many of them appeared to have found a new hope and (I would like to believe) a new confidence in a fresh start with Jesus Christ.

Another thing that really stood out to us was the collaboration between the local pastors Musa and Jeffrey (who are DSEA National Evangelist Support Team partners), Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) Church, and local Gideon members. We firmly believe that this South Africa mission trip would not have been the success it was without all three of these partnerships.  Musa and Jeffrey worked tirelessly behind the scenes, before we arrived, to prearrange our school sessions and the community "tent" outreach, which inevitably allowed us to educate, love and sow the seed of Jesus Christ to upwards of 17,000 souls.  AFM Church was truly a body that loves the Lord and made us feel like one of the family from the time we met until we departed. Their pastor and his wife exemplify what service to God really means.  Finally, it was amazing to work with various Gideon members to distribute over 6,500 bibles (in the native tongues) throughout schools in many communities.  I am ashamed to admit that I just never realized how much the Gideons do.  Wow!  Was I enlightened!

There were so many memories that we have been blessed to take home with us and hold on to for the rest of our lives, but as I reflect each day on the mission, I recall three specific moments that greatly impacted me.

  • The first was just after one of our school presentations.  Conrad shared the Gospel and plan of salvation, as well as his testimony, with the group.  I shared my testimony and a bit about True Love Waits.  When the session was complete, a young girl, about 14 or 15, came up to us and stood in front of me, then placed her hands on my shoulders.  With tears filling her eyes, she stared directly into my eyes and with a deep, sincere and painstakingly sad look, she said, "I want what you have!"  Just then, she glanced at Conrad and then me, as if to say she wanted someone to love her the way she saw Conrad and me loving each other.  This made a huge impact on me because it spoke directly to how real her pain of feeling unloved, unwanted and hopeless was.  We spoke briefly afterwards and she left feeling encouraged. Although for me, the reality of how much I connected with her and those feelings will resonate with me forever.

  • The second memorable moment was on our last day.  With the mission commitments completed, we were heading out for a little R&R and needed to stop for gas.  As we pulled into this out-of-the-way station, a young African gentleman looked at David Stockwell and said, "You're Stockwell!  I met you years ago when you came to my school and told us about Jesus.  You gave me a Bible and now I love the Lord Jesus with all my heart and I've become a pastor.  I visit schools and prisons, telling people about the Lord Jesus."  When we asked what his name was, he said "Promise."  For me, this was God confirming for us that He was going to keep His promise regarding all of the seeds we sowed on His behalf over the past week.

  • Finally, my father-in-law has noticed the difference in Conrad and in me since our return, and has heard firsthand about what God is doing through DSEA; he is convinced that DSEA is a worthwhile organization that is impacting the world for Christ, and is now considering becoming a supporter as well.

We will continue to support DSEA and look forward to serving with you, side by side, to build the kingdom for His glory, in the future.

God bless,

Trish and Conrad
