Join us for a panel discussion with local Superior and District Court Judges who regularly preside in civil court. Panel participants include Hon. Forrest D. Bridges, Hon. Robert C. Ervin, Hon. Calvin E. Murphy, Hon. Donnie Hoover and Hon. Becky Tin, with an introduction to the TCA's Office from Meredith Davis. The panel will be moderated by Hon. Rickye McKoy-Mitchell.  Other panelists "to be announced".

Seeking Linking Lawyers Mentors and Mentees

The Mecklenburg County Bar (MCB) Linking Lawyers program is seeking mentors and mentees for the 2013-14 year. Paired mentors and mentees will gather for the annual kickoff in late fall.

 

Judicial Performance Evaluation Survey - Phase II

The NCBA is conducting its bi-annual Judicial Performance Evaluation using a confidential survey of lawyers to evaluate NC Superior and District Court judges. Phase II asks lawyers to evaluate the performance of: (1) Incumbent Superior and District Court judges who were not evaluated in Phase I and are candidates for election in 2014, and (2) Lawyers who are candidates for election in 2014 as Superior or District Court judges. You should have received an e-mail recently with a link to complete the survey. Your participation will take only a few minutes and will provide important value to the public via the JPE website www.ElectNCJudges.org.

Office of Indigent Defense Services - Revised Fee Application

IDS changed the fee application form December 1, 2013 from AOC-CR-225,Rev.6/11 to AOC- CR -225, Rev. 12/13 Assigned Counsel, IDS contractors and Public Defenders shall utilize this fee application form until notification of a change.

Attorney Judges Needed for Trial Team Intraschool Competition

Charlotte School of Law will host its annual Trial Team Intraschool Competition Mar. 7 - 9. MCB members are invited to preside as judges for one or more rounds: Fri., Mar. 7 at 6 p.m.; Sat. Mar. 8 at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and/or 5 p.m.; and/or Sun., Mar. 9 at 1 p.m. or 5 p.m.   Each round will last approximately 1.5 - 2 hours. To volunteer, contact Ticora E. Jones at jonest2@students.charlottelaw.edu and indicate your preferred time slot.

 

4-5-14 YLD Habitat for Humanity House Build Project

The MCB recently enhanced its direct case placement pro bono program and volunteer attorneys are needed. We are working in conjunction with Legal Aid of NC and Legal Services of Southern Piedmont to assist those clients they are unable to serve. Cases will be assigned on a rotation basis depending upon the area(s) of law for which you register. The time commitment could be as little as one to two cases a year. Areas for which attorneys are needed immediately are family law, landlord/tenant, foreclosure and bankruptcy.
