Part 1) N.C. Rules of Practice - The General Rules of Practice for the Superior and District Courts are a must read for every attorney practicing in this State.  

Part 2) Mecklenburg County Superior Court Local Rules - Covering the concept of Local Rules in general and the nuances of the Mecklenburg County Superior Court Local Rules of Civil Court.  

Part 3) Practicing With Adult ADHD - Tips and Suggestions from a Layman.

Lawyers' Basketball League
Now Accepting Registrations for the 2014 Season. The MCB Lawyers' Basketball League will begin its 2014 season in late February/early March. New Location: All games will be played at the Cathedral of St. Patrick. Register by 2/14/14 

 

Elisa Chinn-Gary Named 2014 Julius L. Chambers Diversity Champion 
The MCB will honor Chinn-Gary with the 2014 Julius L. Chambers Diversity Champion Award at the McMillan Fellowship Fund Dinner on Thurs., Feb. 27, 2014.

 

2014-15 MCB Board of Directors Nominations
Interested members of the MCB are encouraged to submit names for consideration as nominees for various offices and board of directors' seats for the MCB fiscal year beginning July 1, 2014.  All nominations must be submitted by 3/4/14.

A summer program for law students who desire work experience with not-for-profit or government agencies. Application deadline 3/3/14 at 5 p.m.

COURTS' CORNER

 

Office of Indigent Defense Services - Revised Fee Application

IDS changed the fee application form December 1, 2013 from AOC-CR-225,Rev.6/11 to AOC- CR -225, Rev. 12/13 Assigned Counsel, IDS contractors and Public Defenders shall utilize this fee application form until notification of a change.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
 
The MCB recently launched a direct case placement pro bono program and volunteer attorneys are needed. We are working in conjunction with Legal Aid of NC and Legal Services of Southern Piedmont to assist those clients they are unable to serve. Cases will be assigned on a rotation basis depending upon the area(s) of law for which you register. The time commitment could be as little as one to two cases a year. Areas for which attorneys are needed immediately are family law, landlord/tenant, foreclosure and bankruptcy.
