The NCBA aims to provide comprehensive information on judicial candidates provided by practicing attorneys. JPE Phase I includes Special Superior Court judges and all trial judges slated to appear on the ballot in 2014, except the newest judges. Judges are given an overall rating and are graded on legal ability, integrity and impartiality, professionalism, communication and administrative skills. Deadline to participate: 11/15/13.

NC's First African American Chief Justice To Speak

Justice Henry Frye and his biographer, Howard Covington Jr., will speak at the Levine Museum of the New South at 2 p.m. on Nov. 17.  Topics to be covered include Justice Frye's efforts as a legislator in the late 1960s and early 1970s to increase voting opportunities for North Carolina citizens, memorable cases during his nearly 20 years on the state's high court, and life experiences during a period of great social change.  The program is open to the public and without charge.
