Chief Judge Whitney

Hon. Frank D. Whitney assumed the position of chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina on Monday, succeeding Judge Robert J. Conrad Jr. who reached the mandatory seven-year limit for serving in that capacity.

Volunteer Opportunities

One way you can get involved with your Bar, develop relationships with you colleagues and advance into a leadership position is to join MCB committees. Each June, the new Bar president appoints a new class of members to each committee - most for a three-year term.

Bar Foundation Fund

Bar Foundation Fund 2013 is on a Roll!

After reaching our $300,000 goal in 2012, the Mecklenburg Bar Foundation will strive to raise $300,000 again in 2013 and we're happy to report that we're off to a great start, with more than $90,500 raised so far.

Gifts made to the Lawyers' Impact Fund (previously called the unrestricted fund) are the lifeblood of the Mecklenburg Bar Foundation. These gifts enable MBF to award grants to support projects and organizations that serve those in need in our community, including Council for Children's Rights, International House, Larry King's Clubhouse, and NC LEAF to name a few.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of attorneys, law firms, legal departments, and corporations in Mecklenburg County, MBF raised more than$145,000 for the 2012 Lawyers' Impact Fund and used the dollars raised to award more than $119,000 in grants in the first quarter of 2013. To read more about our grant recipients, click here.

Thanks to all the firms and individuals that have stepped up to get our 2013 campaign off to such a great start. Don't miss your chance to join your colleagues in helping us help others - Be A Foundation Friend! Support Your BFF!
