Here is Post #2 on Winning
Winning at All Costs
Gamers coaches and directors are very competitive, driven people. We care a lot about success. And, we care about teaching players how to be successful. Winning is not our only definition of success. We would rather lose a game that we played very well in, compared to winning a game in which we played poorly. We care about winning, but we are not a "win at all cost" program, meaning:
- Practice and development will not be sacrificed to win
- Players' physical health will not be put into jeopardy
- Style of play (playing the game the right way) will not be sacrificed to win
- Individual players self-confidence or passion for the game will be not sacrificed to win
If we play the right level of competition, our teams should win between 50-75% of games. That is a comfortable range. Sometimes you learn more from losing than you do from winning.
Our focus is on teaching players how to win. And, we have a very simple formula for that which will be covered in next post.
