2013 Collection Calendar

This Week in History

On June 5, 1933, the United States went off the gold standard, a monetary system in which currency is backed by gold, when Congress enacted a joint resolution nullifying the right of creditors to demand payment in gold.

Lottery Credit

Did you know that you can get money back on your tax bill through the Wisconsin Lottery and Gaming Credit? This money is distributed from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue from the funds generated from the Wisconsin lottery, pari-mutuel on-track betting and bingo during the year. To qualify for the lottery and gaming credit, an owner must be a Wisconsin resident, the owner of the dwelling, and use the dwelling as their primary residence as of the certification date (January 1 of the year in which the property taxes are levied).

Many of you currently receive this credit on your tax bills. However, in order to continue receiving this credit in future years, the Village must have an application for the credit on file. It is recommended that you complete an application now to ensure that you continue receiving this credit. If the Village does not have an application on file for your home by October 1, 2013, you will not see the credit on your 2013 tax bill, even if you have previously received it.

If you have never received the Lottery and Gaming credit on any previous tax bills and would like to apply for the credit, you must also file an application with the Village.

The application forms for this credit may be found online or are available at Village Hall. If you have further questions, many answers are provided on the Wisconsin Department of Revenue website or you may contact Lynn Galyardt at 414-351-8813.

H2O Construction Update

As construction continues it it is necessary to know which homes are receiving municipal water.  If your home is in the current water project area and you are interested in municipal water, please let the Village know as soon as possible.

Residents in any area of the Village may connect to municipal water at any time, but the costs are significantly less when you are able to work together with your neighbors as seen in the Southwest portion of the Village.

You can view the water project construction timeline and updates on the Village website.  If you have any questions on the current project, you may contact Howard Feiges at [email protected] for more information.

Yard Waste and Recycling Drop-Off
yard waste

On June 11 between 4pm and 8pm, residents can drop off yard waste and recycling (including electronics). The drop-off is taking place at the sled hill parking lot, located off of Fairy Chasm Road.

As always, you can recycle batteries, cell phones, light bulbs and ink cartridges at Village Hall during business hours.
You Can Help Tornado Victims

The State of Oklahoma in coordination with the United Way of Central Oklahoma, has established the OK Strong Disaster Relief Fund. Those who wish to provide assistance to support disaster relief efforts can donate online or find additional information on the voluntary agencies playing a vital role in disaster recovery by visiting: National Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD).

Remember...tornadoes can hit anytime, anywhere, sometimes with little or no advanced notice.  Take steps now to be prepared so you won't have to scramble if or when a tornado is sited in your area.

The Wisconsin Emergency Management website, ReadyWisconsin is an excellent resource for complete and current severe weather information and preparedness tips. When it comes to tornadoes

 and severe weather...Listen, Act, Live!

Code Compliance Program

Are you selling your home? Make sure you understand the Village's Code Compliance Program.

The main purpose of the Certificate of Compliance Program is to maintain the health, safety, and welfare of the community and its housing stock in the following ways:

  • Prevent the deterioration of buildings which present a threat to the well-being of occupants of buildings and to other properties
  • Maintain property values and proactively alleviate depreciation in property values
  • Protect the environment and preserve the aesthetic character of neighborhoods
  • Secure the health, safety and welfare of those living in the Village

Prior to a residence being sold, a Certificate of Compliance must be issued.  Because this process may take some time to complete, it is asked that you plan ahead and complete the application as soon as you decide to sell your home. The application is available online, or you may stop in at Village Hall.  Please contact the Village at (414) 351-8811 with any questions.

New Evidence of EAB

The Wisconsin Department of Argiculture has identified the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) in new areas of the quarantined counties. The new finds were in the Village of Fredonia, Ozaukee County and the Town of Salem, Kenosha County. The complete list of quarantined counties includes Brown, Crawford, Kenosha, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Rock, Trempealeau, Vernon, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha, Fond du Lac and Sheboygan

The Village is working to diversify its urban forest and remove ash trees that are showing signs of decay. This work is being done to reduce the effects of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). Although EAB has not been confirmed in Bayside, as evidenced by these new findings, it has been confirmed in many communities around us.

Chinooks Game

Tickets for the Lakeshore Chinooks Village of Bayside Night are still available. This year, the game is on Thursday, July 11 against the Eau Claire Express. Tickets are $15 and a Chinooks hat is included in your purchase.

A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the Bayside Beautification Fund to enhance our urban forest. Come catch a great game and support a great cause!
