Thought of the Week

"When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us."

This Week in History

On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson broke the color-barrier and became the first African-American player in Major League Baseball.

The Spring Clean-Up Day is Tomorrow!

The first Clean-Up Day of 2013 is tomorrow, Saturday April 20 from 10 am until 3 pm at the Department of Community and Utility Services (DCUS) parking lot behind Village Hall.  You will need to enter the lot of off Fairy Chasm Rd. We are ready to handle your.....

  • recycling
  • electronics
  • paint
  • scrap metal
  • documents for shredding (truck available 10-12, locked bins available all other hours)
  • mattresses
  • bicycles
  • donation's for Goodwill
  • donations for Habitat for Humanity.

Let's see how many pounds we can recycle tomorrow!

This event is for Bayside residents only, and in order to participate you will need to bring  either three non-perishable food items for the Hunger Task Force or a  monetary donation for the Make A Wish Foundation.  Last year at the Spring Clean-Up Day we collected $728.55 for Make A Wish Foundation and 2,000 lbs of food for the Hunger Task Force. Do you think we can top that?

Will it Stop?

Bayside has received over 7 inches of rain in the last two weeks. Village crews have been working hard to make sure that the water flows properly through the Village.

We want to offer a special thanks all of our DCUS staff, and in particular to Bryan Herbst and Scott Matusewic in Department and crews from MMSD and Veolia who worked from early in the morning on Thursday to around 2 am this morning. They were working to correct a sanitary sewer issue that occurred on Brown Deer Road. Unfortunately, the Village had to close a portion of Brown Deer Road yesterday in order to be

able to address the issue. As of 6 am this morning Brown Deer Road isopen.

Please do your part in these events by making sure that your culverts and catch basins are clear of debris. Also, remember that during these rain events every drop of water we use counts. Try to avoid taking long showers, turn the water off while brushing your teeth or shaving, and wait to do the laundry, if possible. You can learn more tips from the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District.

Thank you!

We want to say a thank you to our Public Safety Telecommunicators for this year's National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. We have a staff of 21 in the Bayside Communications Center that serves the entire North Shore.  The telecommunictors are always focused on providing the best service and on making sure that the Police Officers and Firefighters can respond to situations as quickly as possible and be as prepared as possible. We are thankful for their hard work and dedication!

We are thinking of you.....

Our thoughts go out to those affected by the tragic events this week at the Boston Marathon and in Texas.

Unfortunately, there are always people that try to take

advantage of these tragic situations. The Bayside Police Department is reminding everyone to only make donations to reputable charities

2013 Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week

April 15-19 is the State of Wisconsin's Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week.  This week is an excellent time for everyone to prepare for the upcoming tornado season and to increase their knowledge of severe weather.

The following are some tornado facts:

  • Season: Wisconsin's tornado season runs from April through September. The greatest numbers of tornadoes have occurred in May, June and July.  Wisconsin averages almost (20) tornadoes per year .
  • Time of Day: The majority of Wisconsin tornadoes have struck during mid to late afternoon and early evening.  However, a tornado may strike at any time, potentially with little or no warning. Devastating tornadoes have occurred at night and without warning.
  • Movement: Tornadoes usually move from the Southwest to the Northeast; however, the direction of travel may be erratic and could change suddenly.
  • Location: Tornadoes have occurred in and throughout Milwaukee County.  Contrary to popular myth, Lake Michigan and its shoreline do not deter a tornado from occurring.

This following web links provide additional severe weather information:

Great Wisconsin Birdathon

You can support the Birdathon by donating to the team's effortYour pledge supports the Bird Protection Fund and state-wide projects that protect the year-round migrating and breeding needs of Wisconsin's birds.

You also can help with the Birdathon counting on Saturday May 11 by going to the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center between 7:30 and 12 am for a series of bird walks and events for children and adults or by meeting  at Doctor's Park at 8 a.m. for a bird walk led by Norma Zehner and Carl Schwartz.
