This Week in History

On March 4, 1974, Hank Aaron tied Babe Ruth's home-run record by hitting his 714th home run.

Village Hall is Open Today

Village Hall will be open 8 am to 5 pm today to serve you.  For those wishing to absentee vote, Village Hall can accommodate you until 5:00 pm today.

Another Step Forward

Water project construction bids were received this week and are currently being tabulated.  Construction of the project, which stemmed from a grassroots movement led by Bayside resident

Howard Feiges, in collaboration with the Bayside Village Board, and City of Mequon Water Utility and Common Council, now includes 157 properties in the Village.

While bids are still being formally tabulated, the low bid for the Bayside Residential Water Access Association (BRWAA) came in at approximately 30% below engineering estimates.  The Village Board has approved the intergovernmental agreements for the project with the City of Mequon and will formally act upon the previously approved Assessment Resolutions on April 18 to provide the "B" Series Bonding as the financing mechanism to move the project to the next step.

There will be an informational meeting for members of the BRWAA at the Bayside Middle School on Monday, April 8 at 6 pm.  All members are invited to attend and will receive additional correspondence from Howard as well.

Second Installment Due

Remember that the second property tax installment is due March 31. Residents can pay their bill at Village Hall until 5:00 pm today, or use the night drop box at Village Hall this weekend.  The box is located near the Village Hall entrance doors.

We're an All-Star!

Bayside was recently recognized by Constant Contact for communicating and engaging with residents though the Bayside Buzz and Tuesday Talk.  In fact, we were named a  2012 All Star!.

This status is an annual designation that only 10% of Constant Contact users achieve.  The standards for becoming an All Star in 2012 were tougher than ever, the Village is proud to accomplished this goal.  Thanks for staying in touch!
Election Reminder

Voting hours on April 2 will be from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm at Bayside's new polling location, the Bayside Middle School gymnasium.  Entrance to the polling place is off Ellsworth Lane.  Those dropping off and picking up students will be re-routed to King Drive, where they will drive north to drop off and pick up.  There will be Village of Bayside and Middle School staff on hand to guide you.  Sample ballots are available on our website.

Thanks, Shorewood!

A special thank you to the Village of Shorewood for recognizing Bayside for our web site coyote resources and community outreach efforts.

Coyote Safety Info

We have received a few reports of coyote sightings in the Village. Most coyotes are not harmful to humans or larger pets, but they can be very dangerous to smaller pets and other small animals. The Village of Bayside has an excellent web resource on coyotes that includes helpful tips for residents. We encourage concerned residents to check it out...

Wasps to the Rescue

As you may know, Milwaukee County is under quarantine due to the continued presence of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) invasive species.  While the disease has not been confirmed in Bayside, it has been detected in Brown Deer, Cudahy, Franklin, Greendale, Greenfield, Milwaukee, and Oak Creek.

To combat
EAB, the state DNR plans to experiment with using another invasive species.  Wisconsin will soon be the tenth state to release into the wild different species' of sting-less wasps, that are natural predators of EAB in their native China.  The DNR will first attempt this method in Saukville, due to its high number of confirmed EAB cases.  While chemical treatment can be effective, the wasps are intended to combat EAB where it may not have been detected by humans.

Bayside Service Anniversaries

The Village of Bayside would like to recognize telecommunicator Jessica Jakubiak, who is celebrating her first anniversary with the Village!

Thank you Jessica for all your work for the Village of Bayside!

Severe Weather on the Horizon...

Get your family and home ready for tornado season with the official Tornado App from the American Red Cross.  The app puts everything you need to know about preparing for a tornado right at your fingertips, and also sounds an alarm when a tornado warning is issued for your location, even when the app is closed.

The Village tests its siren every Saturday at noon, and Milwaukee County tests every second Wednesday of the month.  However, as tornado season approaches, please be aware that sirens will not be tested if there is a severe weather warning in the area as not to confuse residents.

Bayside Webpage of the Week

Its that time of year again.  Have you noticed potholes in and around the Village? Spring warmth causes the softening of pavement from the winter and can lead to potholes.  Seen one?  Let us know!  Utilize the Village's Report-A-Concern function, where you can enter the location and problem, and even take a picture.  Crews have, and will continue to fill any potholes  and necessary street repairs over the coming weeks.
