"Confidence is the most important single factor in this game, and no matter how great your natural talent, there is only one way to obtain and sustain it: work."

This Week in History

On March 20, 1922, Postmast General Hubert Work ordered all homes to get mailboxes or relinquish delivery of mail.

Village Board honors Eagle Scout
At the March 7 Board of Trustees meeting, Bayside resident William Placek was honored for his confirmation as an Eagle Scout. To achieve this accomplishment, William earned 21 merit badges and completed an extensive service project to benefit the residents of Bayside. For his project, he designed, built, and installed a trailhead announcement board at Doctor's Park on a Lake Michigan bluff.

Bayside congratulates and thanks William, whose contribution will be enjoyed for years to come.

A Bayside Night with the Chinooks

Tickets for the Lakeshore Chinooks Village of Bayside

Night are now available for online purchase. This year, the game is on Thursday, July 11 against the Eau Claire Express. Tickets are $15 and a Chinooks hat is included in your purchase.

A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the Bayside Beautification Fund to enhance our urban forest. Come catch a great game and support a great cause!

Honored for Urban Forestry

The Village was recently honored as a Tree City USA for the fifth consecutive year in a row!  To achieve the designation, the Village must meet a set of specific standards related to urban tree management and practices.  Bayside has over 4,900 trees in right-of-ways and public lands. If you'd like to help add to that total, the Village is continuing its Adopt-a-Tree program in 2013.

This is a great way to increase the aesthetic appeal of b
oth your home and the Village. It also helps bolster, diversify, enhance, and sustain Bayside's urban forest. Since 2007, nearly 650 new trees have been planted through this program.  If you are interested in having a tree planted in the Village right-of-way in front of your home, or for more information, contact Alex Henderson at (414)351-8812.
Bayside Takes Flight

Bayside also was excited to learn it had been

recognized for successfully renewing the status as a Bird City, Wisconsin for 2013 for the third year in a row at the Sustained Flight level.  Bayside was originally recognized as one of the inaugural communities to receive the designation in 2011. To achieve this distinction, the Village met numerous criteria, including Creation and Protection of Habitat, Limiting or Removing Hazards to Birds, and Public Education.

Absentee Voting Begins

Beginning Monday, March 18, absentee ballots for the April 2 Spring Election are available.  You can come into Village Hall anytime during regular business hours, 8 am until 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, to vote.  Sample ballots are available on our website.  On the ballot for the Spring Election are races for State Superintendent, Circuit Court, Village Trustee, Municipal Judge, and School Boards.

Also, as with the Spring Primary, the April 2 election will be in the Bayside Middle School gymnasium.  Entrance to the polling place is off Ellsworth Lane.
Poison Prevention Week: March 17-23

The Village of Bayside and the National Capital Poison Center  would like to remind you of the upcoming Poison Prevention Week, March 17-23. While poison prevention methods should always be utilized, Poison Prevention Week represents a good time to learn more on the dangers of unintentional poisonings and to refresh yourself on safety measures. Here are some helpful tips to prevent accidental poisonings:

  • Store medicines and products in their original containers
  • Use child-resistant packaging and replace caps tightly
  • Store household products in a different place from food and medicine
  • Be sure that every home where your child spends time is poison-proofed
  • Install a battery operated carbon monoxide detector in your home

The National Capitol Poison Center has more information on these and other precautions. It is encouraged to save the poison help number, 1-800-222-1222 in your phone and have it visible in your home.
