Adopt a Tree this Spring
With Spring right around the corner, it's time to start thinking about your lawn and garden plans. If a new tree in front of your home would help enhance your yard and the streetscape, we can help. Bayside has over 4,900 trees in municipal right-of-ways and public lands, of which nearly 700 are ash trees.
With the continued spread of Emerald Ash Borer in six Milwaukee County communities and Bayside being in the quarantined area, the Village has been working proactively since 2007. Bayside will again be enhancing its urban forest by continuing its "Adopt-a-Tree" sustainable tree planting program in 2013.
The Village works with interested residents to find the best location for trees in the right-of-way in front of their home and handles the planting of them. Then homeowners take over, watering and maintaining the tree. This is a great way to increase the aesthetic appeal of both your home and the Village. It also helps bolster, diversify, enhance, and sustain Bayside's urban forest. To date, nearly 650 new trees have been planted through this program since 2007.
This program has been one of the criteria for Bayside to earn the distinction Tree City, USA for the fifth year in a row by the Arbor Foundation. Help us achieve number 6!
As funding is limited, the Village cannot guarantee a tree for every property. If you are interested in having a tree planted in the Village right-of-way in front of your home, or for more information, contact Alex Henderson at (414)351-8812.
