Thought of the Week |

"My wish isn't to mean everything to everyone but something to someone."
-- Oscar Wilde |
This Week In History |
On November 13, 1982, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial is dedicated in Washington after a march to its site by thousands of veterans of the conflict. The long-awaited memorial was a simple V-shaped black-granite wall inscribed with the names of the 57,939 Americans who died in the conflict, arranged in order of death, not rank, as was common in other memorials. |

Adopted Budget | |
At the Thursday night meeting of the Village Board of Trustees, the 2013 Annual Budget was adopted. A few highlights of the budget include:
- No property tax levy increase;
 - Balanced budget;
- Maintenance of service level from 2012 to 2013;
- Funding for sanitary, stormwater, and street improvement projects.
The budget, which was approved by unanimous vote, includes a 0% property tax levy increase for 2013. The same property tax levy has remained in tact since 2011. In fact, since 2009, the property tax has risen just over 1% overall.
Property Taxes
The Village is still waiting for final numbers from Milwaukee County, Ozaukee County, and the State of Wisconsin to determine final tax calculations. We anticipate property tax bills will be delivered to homes the first week of December. |

Yard Waste
Due to the recent nice weather, the Village WILL collected Yard waste (twigs, branches, bagged material.) one more time next Wednesday, November 21.
Also, residents can bring both yard waste and recycling materials to drop off free of charge on Tuesday, November 20 (4-8pm) at the sled hill parking lot.
Loose Leaves
Loose leaves will again be collected again the week of November 26, weather permitting (this will be the final leaf collection of 2012) - check out the collection schedule to stay up to date.

Happy Thanksgiving |
Village Closure
A reminder that Village offices will be closed next Thursday and Friday, November 22 & 23 in observance of Thanksgiving. Garbage and recycling collections, both the week of November 19 and 26 will continue as scheduled. |
Right Place, Right Time | |
When it comes to regular collections in the Village, it is important to remember there is a right location, and right timeframe to have items placed for pick up. For example, just like you wouldn't put garbage containers out for collection on a Friday, leaf collection is done on an every other week basis. Having these materials sit in the roadway for an extended period of time is an aesthetic eyesore, and can also be a safety hazard.
In addition, putting these materials in the proper location plays a huge role in their ability to be collected. For example, placing leaf piles around the mailbox makes it difficult to maneuver the collection hose, and can also open the mailbox up to potential damage. To help, simply follow a few simple guidelines to ensure your leaf pile is collected. |
A Bit More Room | |
It's that time of year! Having friends and family over to the house is a holiday tradition. But with extra people often comes additional garbage and recycling. No worries, we've got the solution for you. Stop into Village Hall to rent a garbage and/or recycling container for a one-time use!
For just $25 for the first container, and $5 for each thereafter, these rentals provide a cheap and easy way to get rid of all your leftovers at once. Village crews will deliver your extra container(s), and pick them up after they've been emptied - you'll just need to put them out with your regular collection. For more information, contact Alex Henderson, or stop into Village Hall today. |
Bag It | |
With winter just around the corner the Village would like to remind all residents to clean up after their pets. Animal waste, when not properly disposed, can be tracked into homes and even our natural waterways (especially through snowmelt). Do your part and keep Bayside clean and healthy - pick up after your pet! Remember, leaving this waste (even in plastic bags) is a form of litter, and against Village code.
Ellsworth Park is a great place to bring your dog! It's equipped with tons of room to run, and even dog waste stations at both the east and west ends of the park. |
Winter Preparations |
|
W hile the temperatures are dipping, we still have some time left before winter is here. Is your mailbox ready for snow? The Village will be out identifying those mailboxes that are unsturdy to prevent winter damage. Residents are reminded that mailboxes that are damaged by the weight of removed snow are the responsibility of the homeowner to repair. Make sure your mailbox is winter ready by ensuring it is straight, sturdy and stable! |
