This Week In History

On October 10, 1957, the Milwaukee Braves defeat the New York Yankees to win their first World Series since 1914. (They played in Boston then; the team moved to Wisconsin in 1953.)  The Braves had outfielder Hank Aaron, who'd hit 44 home runs and batted .322 that season, and a pitching staff that included the greats Bob Buhl, Warren Spahn and Lew Burdette.

  • Tuesday, November 20 from 4pm to 8 pm @ the sled hill parking lot
Want to Vote by Absentee Ballot?
Residents can fill out absentee ballot applications and return them to Village Hall to have an absentee ballot mailed to them.  Absentee ballots must then be mailed back to or dropped off at Village Hall.

Absentee Ballots Available at Village Hall on Oct. 22
Beginning Monday, October 22, residents may vote by absentee ballot at Village Hall.  State Statute prevents residents from voting at Village Hall prior to this date.
  • Village Hall will be open October 29 through November 1 until 6:00 pm for absentee voting.

Still Need to Register?
If you moved to Bayside and need to register to vote, or if you or someone you know is a first time voter, come into Village Hall to register to vote prior to the election.    You can also use the State's new voter information website to register to vote and to request an absentee ballot, along with much more.

Leaves, Yard Waste and Recycling

Loose leaf collection season has finally arrived in Bayside.  While some preliminary equipment testing was completed this week, full operations will be taking place next week.  With falling leaves comes a few reminders:

  • Loose leaf will be picked up beginning the week of October 15. Check out the collection schedule.
  • Please rake leaves to the curb, but out of the street - this keeps our narrower roads safer for vehicles, bicycles and pedestrian traffic.
  • When driving, please be congnizant that leaf piles are attractive for kids to play in, so please use caution and stay aware.

Yard Waste and Recycling Drop-Off Reminder

Residents can drop-off yard waste and recyclables at the sled hill parking lot on Tuesday, October 16 from 4 pm to 8 pm.

Congrats Fran

Congratulations to Village Police Sergeant, Fran Ehler.  Sgt. Ehler  celebrated her twentieth year anniversary with the Bayside Police Department on October 7.

Please help us by thanking Fran and congratulating her on 20 great years!

 Coyote Aware

The Police Department has received a few calls lately about coyotes in the Village.  While these animals are normally not threatening, a small percentage can prove more brazen around humans.

The Village has employed several techniques to help deter coyotes. One unique solution that the Village has used is wolf urine. Wolf urine is successful because wolves are one of coyotes few natural predators, and coyotes will avoid areas were wolves the presence of wolves is sensed. Wolf urine has been placed around the Village where coyotes have been spotted, and has been successful thus far.

If you notice a coyote on or near your property or would like more information about Bayside's efforts to deter coyotes, please contact Captain Scott McConnell at (414) 351-8800.

Garbage and Gouhls

During the weekend of October 27 and 28, Bayside will be hosting two of its most popular events:  Clean-Up Day and Fright Night.  Don't miss out on your last chance to dispose of unwanted items around the house and to have some family friendly Halloween fun with friends and neighbors after trick-or-treating.

When and Where?halloween

  • Clean-Up Day:  Saturday, October 27 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the DCUS parking lot (enter off of Fairy Chasm).  Check out the flier to see what you can dispose of.
  • Fright Night:  Sunday, October 28 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Ellsworth Park.
  • Bayside Trick-or-Treat:  2:30 to 5:30 pm

Want to Volunteer?

The Village is always looking for help to make these events possible.  If you want to volunteer your time for either event, please contact Village Hall at 414-351-8811.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
