Brothers,

I would like to thank the 13 brothers that traveled to Mokanna on August 27th. Although it was a looooong meeting (Mokanna had been dark for 2 meetings) we had fun and brought the gavel home to Pine Castle where it belongs. I expect visitors soon to try and take it away but we will just keep traveling and bringing it home.

I would also like to thank W:. Rich Wirth, Jr. for allowing Pine Castle to host a fantastic Masonic Leadership Training class. W:. Rich did a terrific job of presenting the material and I am looking forward to the next class on Sept. 29th. Any brother interested in being in the officers line next year should make every attempt to attend this course.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind ALL of the officers (and anyone interested in getting in the officers line) of a few things. First, just because you are in a chair this year does not mean you will be in one next year. The top three (WM, SW, & JW) are elected positions along with the secretary and treasurer. ALL other chairs are APPOINTED by the sitting master. If you want to move forward you have to show initiative and perform all of your duties as best you can. Simply coming to the meetings and sitting in the chairs DOES NOT make you an officer and will not get you advanced next year. Remember, when you took your obligations during your installation, you ceased to be a volunteer and were obligated to perform your duties as best you could. Secondly, if you wish to make the most of your masonic career, not only as an officer but as a Master Mason, you need to make sure you not only attend as many of your own lodge events as possible but visit other lodges and district events. We all have demands on our time and we all have the same 24 hours each day. We joined this fraternity for various reasons but I feel strongly that chief among them was a desire for fellowship. You won't get that staying home and playing games.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite all past masters and the Senior and Junior Wardens to a meeting to discuss next years line. The meeting will take place at 7pm after the officers meeting on Sept. 4th. Please let me know if you are able to attend.

On an up note, I would like to move ahead with the October BBQ. The proposed date will be Saturday, Oct. 20th. One of our newest Master Masons, David Souza, is a certified food handler. This meets at least one of the requirements we are missing. Bro. Souza has offered to conduct the class required to get others certified. We have a tentative date set for Sept 22nd at 11:30a after the family breakfast. I will bring this up at our Stated Communication on the 5th. If you have any input, comments or suggestion they will be welcome.

Speaking of Bro. Souza, I will be installing him as our Senior Steward on the 5th. David has shown a great desire to be a part of our lodge and has been helping our Junior Warden in the kitchen as often as possible ever since he became an EA. I believe he has been to more family breakfasts than I have. Thanks Bro. Souza and keep up the good work.

We also have a new Chairman of the Building Maintenance Committee. Bro. Rene Torres (also a new Master Mason) has agreed to head up this extremely important committe to keep your lodge building in good shape. There are many things that need to be done and Bro. Torres is well on the way to getting them taken care of starting with the ongoing A/C leak in Pegram Hall. Thank you Bro. Torres.

On a down note, due to rain and high winds (and possibly some dirt and sticks) the aluminum covering over the smoker out back has fallen. We have considered putting in a claim to our insurance company however, I feel that we can replace it for less cost than our deductible. I would ask that ANYONE with knowledge and/or interest in aluminum coverings (or something suitable) attend our next stated communication on the 5th to provide some input.

Also on the 5th we will be discussing some upcoming fundraisers such as the Rummage sale on the 29th of September and the Craft / Bake sale on the 17th of November. We are trying to have some non-food related (meaning not cooked in the lodge kitchen) events. My thought for the rummage sale is to have the Rainbow provide breakfast (donuts or something) and the OES can provide lunch of some sort. Just some of the things to discuss and work out.

As you can see, there are a great many things going on at your lodge and around the district that you can be a part of and benefit from. As a brother of our lodge I welcome your input and attendance at lodge. I know you have heard this many times and this won't be the last. You only get out of Freemasonry what you put into it. I look forward to seeing you in Lodge and around the district.

As always, if you have any questions, comments or suggestions please don't hesitate to let me know.

My Brothers,

Let me start by giving my personal thanks and gratitude to those of you who came to Bro. Carter's funeral. His widow herself said that it could not have gone any better. Likewise the Master Mason degree was well attended. Though now we have a new challenge ahead of us. The roof above the smoker has collapsed and, needless to say, a work-call is soon to be called (To the younger brothers, I'm speaking too you). Though let us not become apprehensive at this task, but instead meet it head-on. Use this as an opportunity to do something for "your" lodge if you have not done so lately. Use it to rekindle old friendships and say hello to new faces. Because this is "our" lodge and one can only take "pride" in it, when there is "pride in ownership"

Respectfully Yours,
Michael L. Diaz, Senior Warden

Brothers,

On September 18th at 7:30, we will be hosting a Master Mason Exam night.  If you have taken MM1 and MM2, we will have the MM3 exam for you.  If you have completed MM1, we will have MM2 available for you.  If you have not completed any MM exams, come on up to the lodge and get started learning about the Digest of Masonic Law.  These are open book tests that you can work on collectively and are an excellent way to familiarize yourself with the Masonic rulebook, especially if you have an interest in moving through the line to the East.  We may also be hosting Lodge Officer Training tests in the latter part of the year.

There is also another Masonic Leadership Training class at Winter Park Lodge on Saturday, September 29th.  This is a continuation of the class that was held at Pine Castle in August and will cover different topics.  Again, if you have any interest in being an officer in the future, these classes are a great way to learn about the duties and responsibilities of the various officers and how to successfully prepare yourself to move up.

For those Master Masons that have not yet returned your catechisms, Master Mason Catechism classes are being held every tuesday and thursday night this month at the lodge from 7pm to 9pm.

As you read in the Worshipful Masters message, we hope to have our Fall Barbeque on Saturday, October 20th.  As we had to cancel the June event, we are looking forward to seeing all the brothers at the Lodge for this one.  As usual, we need volunteers to help pull off the event.  I will have sign up sheets in Pegram Hall for shifts on Friday and Saturday to ensure we have coverage.

Anyone interested in the South next year should consider shadowing me at this BBQ so that you can get an idea of what you are in for next year.

We will be having a Past Masters dinner on September 15th at 6:30 at the Lodge.  Menu will be Steak, Baked Potatoes, Salad, Vegetable, and dessert.  Past Masters and their ladies will eat for free.  Other brothers and their guests are asked to donate $10 per person to help cover the cost of the dinner.  Please RSVP via email at jamiles@bellsouth.net or phone at (407) 353-0111 by Wednesday, September 12th so that I can have an accurate count for planning purposes.

Menu for Stated Communication dinners this month is:

September 5th - Soup and Sandwich night (BLTs/Grilled Cheese sandwiches and Tomato Soup) with cake after the meeting.

September 19th - Chicken Parmesan with side dish, salad and cookies after the meeting.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Lodge this month!

Fraternally,
