Greetings My Brothers!

On to September...!!!
The work of Masonry keeps marching forward...

We have 5 brothers who will complete their third degree on the 8th.  All brother's are invited. First Section starts at 6pm, we will have a wonderful home cooked meal at 7pm prior to the second section which will start at 8pm.

THANKS to our two "Anonymous Wayfaring Brothers", who cleared the dead trees and installed the new lighting around the lodge property.  The lighting work was completed this past week and what a difference that these two brothers have made to our property.  Photos and a details on this will follow in a later e mail.

The notices are going out and a discussion / vote will be held on the first meeting of October concerning the lodge dues.  We have neglected this responsibility for too many years now, and as I have been repeatedly saying, the hard questions and decisions concerning the finances of the lodge will have to be addressed before my year is out. Please take the time to read the notice that you will soon receive in the mail.  I would like to receive as much input as possible so that I can proceed according to your wishes.

Although I cannot control the cost of the building's lights, insurance and maintenance, I can control some expenses that are not absolutely necessary.  Going to the electronic Trestle Board has saved us over $1000 a year.  But that is only a start. More must be done.

In keeping with our situation, I have asked the secretary NOT to order the Past Master's apron, case and pin that is traditionally given at the end of the year.  It is a beautiful gift that we clearly cannot afford to give this year. In the future years, when the Treasurer reports to us that we are back in good financial straights, the brothers can always have the option of presenting me with this honor and I will be most proud to wear it.

TO THE YOUNGER BROTHERS: I know that throughout the year you have heard comments from a few individuals, older brothers, that appear to undermine the respect for and authority of the lodge officers and the master.  Often, these comments can be both frustrating and discouraging.  Some of you have expressed your disappointments, especially given the fact that some of these comments come from past masters.

Please...when you are exposed to these remarks, keep in mind that the changes that both Pine Castle and Masonry are undergoing, while necessary, are difficult for some.  Make the effort to show patience and kindness with these older brothers.  You will learn that just because someone is a past master will not mean that they will be supportive or encouraging (or right!).  It is an old masonic joke that past masters only know how to say "no".  Keep up the good work and all will unfold as it should!

And finally, our last BBQ of the year is fast approaching. Keep watch on your calendars brothers!!! The second Saturday of October.

As we had experienced a curious lack of help and no shortage of criticism at the last BBQ, I have requested that the past masters of Pine Castle lead the operation of this particular upcoming function.  It will have all of the traditional recipes and formats of the prior years and I am hoping that, with W. Bob Monroe's involvement, attendance will be larger in numbers and in better cheer than the last event!

My personal thanks go out to our Junior Warden Art Johnson, who despite his medical troubles, has kept in very close touch with the activities this year.  And a special thanks to his assistant, Bro. Dave Rohr, who has faithfully worked so hard to carry out Art's wishes.  Finally, my recognition and thanks goes out to those who have also been so positive and supportive of the Jr. Warden this year.

Stay in touch...hope to see you at lodge.  Look to our calendar of events for any changes and additions.

Best Regards,

Sprig if AcaciaAcacia

The Acacia is used as a symbol in Freemasonry, to represent purity and endurance of the soul, and as funerary symbolism signifying resurrection and immortality. The tree gains its importance from the description of the burial of Hiram Abiff, the builder of King Solomon's Temple in Jerusalem.

Acacia (pronounced /əˈkeɪʃə/) is a genus of shrubs and trees belonging to the subfamily Mimosoideae of the family Fabaceae, first described in Africa by the Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus in 1773. Many non-Australian species tend to be thorny, whereas the majority of Australian Acacias are not. They are pod-bearing, with sap and leaves typically bearing large amounts of tannins. The generic name derives from ακακία (akakia), the name given by early Greek botanist-physician Pedanius Dioscorides (ca. 40-90) to the medicinal tree A. nilotica in his book Materia Medica.[2] This name derives from the Greek word for its characteristic thorns, ακις (akis, thorn).[3] The species name nilotica was given by Linnaeus from this tree's best-known range along the Nile river.

Acacias are also known as thorntrees, whistling thorns or wattles, including the yellow-fever acacia and umbrella acacias.
