Merry Christmas!
Children Share the Message of Christmas with Dramatic Presentation |
|
The other day I gave a Christmas drama to the Sunday School director at the newest Hispanic mission here in El Paso. Diana is studying the Christian Education course at the Missionary Institute and is brimming with enthusiasm and energy!
The drama presents several characters - a Christmas card, a Christmas tree, a Christmas present, and so on - who argue about which one represents Christmas the best. However, as the drama winds on, we realize that none of these "traditional" Christmas things were part of the very first Christmas. At that first Christmas, there was only the love of God. Jesus gave up heaven itself (all of his traditions!) to come to earth as a missionary to save us!
Lord willing, the children of "Cristo Luz del Mundo" mission will be presenting that drama on Christmas Day. It is all too easy to get caught up in all of our holiday activities and forget the key point of Christmas. What a blessing we have in Jesus' unconditional love! Thank you for helping to prepare leaders like Diana who will in turn keep others focused on Jesus and the message of salvation!
May God bless your Christmas and New Year's celebrations! May your heart be full of Jesus' love! I look forward to continuing to share with you in the days to come.
In Christ,
Rev Richard K Schlak |

Partners in Latino Ministries Conference |
|
The purpose of this letter is to invite your participation in a first-ever and innovative conference we are hosting October 23-25, 2013 in El Paso, Texas. Called the "Partners in Latino Ministries Conference" or PALMCON, it will bring together local Hispanic ministry workers as well as regional and national educators, resource providers and other supporters to collectively advance an essential aspect of Hispanic ministry in the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod - the development of local ministry leadership.
When it comes to Hispanic Ministry in the LCMS, are you like Elijah who needed reassurance that he was not the only worker in the field (1Kings 19:14)...or like the woman at the well who could not wait to tell others what she had discovered (John 4:28)...or like the Ethiopian who knew there was good work happening but needed it explained to him (Acts 8:31). Well, if you are, then PALMCON is for you!
When you attend PALMCON be prepared to be totally engaged from the time you arrive to the time you leave. You won't just listen to presentations; you and your peers will be made a part of every one of them. PALMCON is designed around a unique table discussion format that facilitates open dialog between speakers, attendees and each other. This interactive learning setting is a proven technique to facilitate the sharing of experiences and will enhance communication between conference attendees.
Those who have experienced its use have consistently given it rave reviews because of the value they gained by attending. Who better to learn from than each other? All of you have experienced methods that work very well and some that didn't. Using this format everyone gains something, including the speakers, because they get immediate feedback from people on the front line. As a bonus, you will be able to expand your support network with the contacts you will meet and exchange ideas with during the conference. Sign up now - attendance is limited - don't miss this exciting opportunity!
